Vana Holy Basil is wild or forest tulsi, here Ocimum gratissimum, listed in the catalogue only to genus as Ocimum sp., a shrubby perennial of the mint family, Lamiaceae, native to tropical Africa and India and grown around temples and homes across South Asia. It is the largest of the tulsi types, a woody bush 1 to 2 meters tall with broad, light green, toothed and slightly hairy leaves and long spikes of small greenish-white flowers. The leaves carry a strong clove-and-lemon scent from eugenol. We extract the dried leaf.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
