Vetiver (Chrysopogon zizanioides) is a tall, densely tufted perennial grass of the grass family, Poaceae, native to India and grown across the tropics, for its fragrant roots and as a soil-binding hedge. The stiff, narrow leaves rise 1.5 to 2 meters in clumps from a crown, with brownish-purple flower spikes in a loose panicle, but the remarkable part is below ground: a dense, spongy mass of fine roots growing straight down 2 to 4 meters. Dried, the roots have a deep, smoky, earthy-woody scent. We extract the dried root.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
