Wormwood (Artemisia absinthium) is a woody-based perennial of the daisy family, Asteraceae, native to temperate Europe, Asia and North Africa and naturalized across North America on dry roadsides and waste ground. It forms a bushy clump 60 to 120 cm tall with grooved stems and deeply divided, silvery-grey leaves covered in fine silky hairs that release a strong, sharp, sage-like scent when brushed. Small, nodding, pale yellow flower heads are borne in leafy panicles in late summer. It is intensely bitter and the defining flavor of absinthe and vermouth. We extract the dried herb.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
