About Eriodictyon californicum

Yerba Santa (Eriodictyon californicum) is an evergreen shrub of the family Namaceae, formerly placed in the waterleaf family Hydrophyllaceae, native to the dry chaparral, foothills and roadsides of California and southern Oregon. It forms a thicket 1 to 3 meters tall of straight, sticky, resinous stems with long, narrow, leathery leaves that are glossy and varnished dark green above and net-veined and felted beneath. Clusters of small white to lavender funnel-shaped flowers appear in early summer. The leaves are aromatic, bitter at first and then sweet on the tongue. We extract the dried leaf.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
