Frequently Asked Questions about Jasmine Extract
What is Jasmine (Jasminum officinale) flower extract?
Jasmine is a climbing shrub of the family Oleaceae, the olive family, botanically Jasminum officinale, and known by the common names common jasmine and poet's jasmine. Native to the Himalayas, it is a vigorous twining, deciduous climber with pointed pinnate leaves and clusters of starry, pure white summer flowers. The part used is the dried flower. This is the true, edible jasmine: Jasminum officinale flower is generally recognized as safe as a food and has long been used to scent teas, syrups and desserts. Our raw material is sourced in China. The extract is offered in two forms, a traditional alcohol-based tincture and an alcohol-free glycerite. This is a whole-flower liquid extract carrying the flower's natural spectrum of constituents, not an isolated compound, and it is not jasmine essential oil or jasmine tea, which are different products. We label it clearly by botanical name and plant part. Please read the notes on identity and safety below, as several unrelated plants share the jasmine name.
What is the difference between the tincture and alcohol-free versions?
Both are liquid extracts of the same Jasminum officinale flower; only the solvent differs. The tincture uses alcohol as the traditional solvent, together with vegetable glycerin and water. The alcohol-free version is a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and purified water, suited to those who avoid alcohol. Both deliver the flower's constituents in a convenient liquid you take by the drop. Choose the tincture for a classic alcohol-extracted format with a longer shelf life; choose the glycerite if you prefer no alcohol.
Which jasmine is this, and are some jasmines toxic?
This is an important question, because the word jasmine is attached to several unrelated plants and a few of them are poisonous. Our product is Jasminum officinale, the true common or poet's jasmine of the olive family, which is edible and food-safe. There are a few things to distinguish it from. First, another true jasmine: Jasminum sambac, Arabian jasmine, is a different species, the one most used for jasmine tea and flower leis. Second, our own separate product: we also sell Star Jasmine, which is Trachelospermum jasminoides, a different plant in the dogbane family - it has its own pages. Third, and most important for safety, the false jasmines: Carolina jasmine, also called yellow jessamine, is Gelsemium sempervirens, and it is highly poisonous - all parts contain toxic alkaloids, and it is not a jasmine at all; night-blooming jasmine, Cestrum nocturnum, is also toxic. These share only the name. Our product is the true, edible Jasminum officinale flower, and we label the botanical name and plant part on every page so there is no confusion with the toxic look-alikes.
How do I use Jasmine liquid extract?
Shake well before use. Adults take 20-30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water, tea, or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by your practitioner. Drink the entire contents. Do not exceed the suggested serving.
Is Jasmine extract right for everyone? Safety and storage.
Jasminum officinale flower is regarded as food-safe and low in toxicity, which is one reason it has long been used to flavor teas and sweets. Even so, a few sensible precautions apply. Do not use this product during pregnancy, and if you are nursing, take any medication, or are managing a health condition, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. This product is not intended for young children. Do not exceed the suggested serving, and discontinue use and consult your practitioner if any adverse reaction occurs. Keep out of reach of children. Store this tincture in a cool, dark place. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

ETHICALLY SOURCED, NATURAL INGREDIENTS
Our Jasmine (Jasminum Officinale) Flower is selected from regions with optimal growing conditions to support a high concentration of active constituents. We work only with trusted suppliers and focus on sourcing clean, well-preserved botanical material suitable for high-quality liquid extraction.

As a solvent, we use alcohol to preserve the integrity of the extract and support a clean extraction process.
To verify botanical identity and ensure consistency, all raw materials are tested in our laboratory using established analytical techniques. These include High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) for plant authentication and fingerprinting, or Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and other in-house methods. Our approach is guided by relevant standards such as those of the USP and Ph. Eur., ISO 17025 and cGLP, allowing us to maintain rigorous quality control, ensuring the material meets our specifications for identity, purity and composition.
METICULOUS EXTRACT PREPARATION
Hawaii Pharm determines the optimal herb-to-menstruum ratio for each botanical. For alcohol-based extracts, we use a carefully balanced alcohol blend to ensure maximum extraction of active compounds while preserving the plant's natural integrity.
Our master herbalists analyze each batch and adjust extraction parameters as needed, ensuring consistent quality despite natural variations in botanical sources.
The result is a potent, stable liquid extract that captures the full spectrum of the botanical's benefits.
COMPREHENSIVE LABORATORY TESTING
Every batch undergoes multiple quality assurance tests including:
  • Organoleptic evaluation (color, consistency, aroma)
  • FTIR and/or HPTLC spectral analysis for identity confirmation
  • Microbiological testing (total plate count, E. coli, coliforms)
  • Yeast and mold screening
  • Alcohol content verification
