LAIDY Alcohol-Free Drops

This is an alcohol-free liquid extract (glycerite) of seven herbs extracted together: three roots, a berry, a leaf, a wayside root and a flowering herb, gathered from three continents. Each is also sold on its own. It is a traditional herbal product for adults only that interacts with many prescription medicines, including hormonal contraceptives - please read the safety information below before use.

What is in the blend

  • Black cohosh root - the dark, knotted root of a tall woodland plant of eastern North America with wands of white flowers.
  • Vitex berry - the small, pepper-scented fruit of the Mediterranean chaste tree.
  • Dong quai root - the aromatic, celery-scented root of a Chinese angelica grown in the cool mountains of Gansu.
  • Ginkgo leaf - the fan-shaped leaf of the ginkgo tree, a living fossil cultivated in temple courtyards for a thousand years. Only the leaf is used; the seed is a different material and is not part of this blend.
  • Maca root - the turnip-like root of a cress relative grown above 4,000 meters on the Peruvian altiplano, traditionally dried and cooked.
  • Burdock root - the long taproot of the familiar wayside plant with hooked burrs, eaten as a vegetable (gobo) in Japan.
  • St. John's wort herb - the yellow-flowered herb of European meadows, gathered in midsummer; its flowers stain the extract red.

Why the alcohol-free drops

The seven dried herbs are extracted together in vegetable glycerin and purified water, so there is no ethanol in the bottle - the version to choose if you avoid alcohol. Glycerin gives the drops a mild, naturally sweet taste that softens the bitter, earthy note of the roots.

What is a glycerite?

A glycerite is a liquid herbal extract made with vegetable glycerin instead of alcohol. Glycerin is a clear, naturally sweet liquid from plant oils; it extracts and preserves the water-soluble parts of the herbs. Because glycerin is a weaker preservative than alcohol, keep the bottle refrigerated after opening. The glycerin and water percentages are printed on the label.

How to use

Shake well before use. Put the number of drops shown on the label into a little water, juice or tea and drink it, up to the frequency shown on the label. Do not exceed the label serving, and do not use continuously for more than a few months without a practitioner. Refrigerate after opening and use within the period printed on the label.

Drops or tincture?

If you prefer the classic alcohol-based extract with the longest shelf life at room temperature, the same seven-herb blend is available as LAIDY Tincture - the alcohol-based version. The herbs and proportions are identical; only the extraction liquid differs.

Important safety information - please read before use

This blend interacts with many prescription medicines, including hormonal contraceptives, and is for adults only. Please read before use.

  • Prescription medicines: St. John's wort speeds up the breakdown of many drugs and can make them stop working. Do not use this blend if you take hormonal contraceptives, warfarin, digoxin, statins, HIV medicines, transplant medicines, cancer drugs or any other prescription medicine without your doctor. Vitex can also reduce the effect of contraceptives and hormone therapy and interferes with antipsychotics and dopamine agonists.
  • Antidepressants: do not combine with any antidepressant or other serotonin-acting drug.
  • Bleeding and surgery: ginkgo leaf and dong quai can increase bleeding. Do not combine with blood thinners or aspirin, and stop use at least two weeks before surgery.
  • Pregnancy, nursing and conception: do not use.
  • Hormone-sensitive conditions: several of these herbs act on hormone pathways. Do not use if you have a hormone-sensitive condition.
  • Liver: black cohosh has been linked to rare liver injury. Stop and see a doctor if you notice dark urine, yellowing skin or eyes, or stomach pain.
  • Thyroid: maca may affect thyroid function. Consult your doctor if you have a thyroid condition.
  • Sun: St. John's wort and dong quai increase sun sensitivity. Protect your skin.
  • Seizures: ginkgo may lower the seizure threshold. Do not use if you have a seizure disorder.
  • Allergies, diuretics and blood sugar: burdock is a daisy-family (Asteraceae) plant, adds to the effect of diuretics and may lower blood sugar.
  • Bipolar disorder: do not use St. John's wort.
  • Age: adults only.
  • If you have a medical condition or take medication, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Do not use it to self-treat any medical condition - see a qualified doctor instead. Keep out of reach of children.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is LAIDY Alcohol-Free Drops?
LAIDY is a seven-herb liquid blend: black cohosh root (Actaea racemosa), vitex berry (Vitex agnus-castus), dong quai root (Angelica sinensis), ginkgo leaf (Ginkgo biloba), maca root (Lepidium meyenii), burdock root (Arctium lappa) and St. John's wort herb (Hypericum perforatum), extracted together in vegetable glycerin and purified water, with no alcohol. It brings together roots from the American woodlands (black cohosh), the mountains of China (dong quai) and the high Andes (maca), a Mediterranean berry (vitex), a European wayside root (burdock), the leaf of the ancient ginkgo tree and the yellow-flowered St. John's wort of European meadows. Each is also sold on its own. It is an herbal glycerite, not a capsule, and it is for adults only. It is a botanical product and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Please read the safety note below - this blend interacts with many prescription medicines, including hormonal contraceptives.
What is the difference between the alcohol-free drops and the tincture?
Both contain the same seven herbs in the same proportions; only the extraction liquid differs. These drops are a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and purified water - no alcohol, a milder and naturally sweet taste that softens the bitter, earthy note of the roots, best kept refrigerated after opening. The tincture uses organic alcohol with vegetable glycerin and water, the classic method with the longest shelf life at room temperature. Choose whichever suits you; the safety notes apply to both.
How is LAIDY different from Femenol? Is the ginkgo the leaf or the seed?
LAIDY and Femenol share four herbs - black cohosh, vitex, dong quai and St. John's wort - but the rest of each formula is different: LAIDY adds ginkgo leaf, maca root and burdock root, while Femenol uses motherwort, wild yam and flax. They are two distinct blends, not two names for one product. The ginkgo in LAIDY is the leaf; ginkgo seed (the nut) is a different material with its own toxin and is not used here. All seven herbs are also available as single extracts.
How do I use LAIDY Drops?
