Prostate Support Alcohol-Free Drops

This is an alcohol-free liquid extract (glycerite) of three herbs extracted together in equal parts: a palm berry, a tree bark and a leaf. All three are also sold on their own. It is a traditional herbal product - please read the safety information below before use.

  • Saw palmetto, berry - Serenoa repens fruit (Arecaceae)
  • Pygeum, bark - Prunus africana bark (Rosaceae) - CITES Appendix II, traded under permit
  • Stinging nettle, leaf - Urtica dioica leaf (Urticaceae) - the leaf, not the root
  • Extract type: Alcohol-free glycerite - liquid drops. Other ingredients: vegetable glycerin, purified water
  • Origin: Responsibly sourced botanicals. Gluten free. Made in the USA.

What is in the blend

  • Saw palmetto - the dark, olive-sized berry of a slow-growing fan palm native to Florida and the Gulf coast, gathered from wild stands under state regulation. The berries have a distinctive soapy, slightly sharp taste.
  • Pygeum - the bark of the African cherry, a tall evergreen of the highland forests of central and southern Africa. Over-harvesting in the 1990s put the species on CITES Appendix II, so bark is now traded under permit from managed harvests; responsible sourcing matters.
  • Stinging nettle - the familiar hedgerow herb of Europe and North America; the young leaf is used here (the root is a different plant part with its own traditional profile).

Why the alcohol-free drops

The dried berries, bark and leaf are extracted together in vegetable glycerin and purified water, so there is no ethanol in the bottle - the version to choose if you avoid alcohol. Glycerin gives the drops a mild, naturally sweet taste that softens the soapy bitterness of saw palmetto.

What is a glycerite?

A glycerite is a liquid herbal extract made with vegetable glycerin instead of alcohol. Glycerin is a clear, naturally sweet liquid from plant oils; it extracts and preserves the water-soluble parts of the herbs. Because glycerin is a weaker preservative than alcohol, keep the bottle refrigerated after opening. The glycerin and water percentages are printed on the label.

How to use

Shake well before use. Put the number of drops shown on the label into a little water, juice or tea and drink it, up to the frequency shown on the label. Do not exceed the label serving. Refrigerate after opening and use within the period printed on the label.

Drops or tincture?

If you prefer the classic alcohol-based extract with the longest shelf life at room temperature, the same three-herb blend is available as Prostate Support Tincture - the alcohol-based version. The herbs and proportions are identical; only the extraction liquid differs.

Important safety information - please read before use

Please read before use.

  • See a doctor first: prostate and urinary symptoms can have many causes, some of them serious. Have them properly diagnosed by a doctor before using this or any herbal product, and do not use it in place of medical care.
  • Bleeding: saw palmetto may affect blood clotting, and nettle leaf is rich in vitamin K, which can change how warfarin works. Consult your doctor if you take any blood thinner. Stop use at least two weeks before scheduled surgery.
  • Hormones: saw palmetto may interact with hormone therapies and oral contraceptives.
  • Pregnancy / nursing: do not use - not for women who are or may become pregnant.
  • Blood pressure, diuretics and blood sugar: nettle leaf may add to the effect of blood-pressure medicines, diuretics and diabetes medication.
  • Liver and pancreas: rare cases have been reported with saw palmetto. Stop and see a doctor if you develop abdominal pain, dark urine or yellowing of the skin or eyes.
  • Allergies: pygeum is a rose-family (Rosaceae) plant - use caution if you are allergic to cherries, plums or almonds. Nettle can cause skin sensitivity.
  • Age: not for children.
  • If you have a medical condition or take medication, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Do not use it to self-treat any medical condition - see a qualified doctor instead. Keep out of reach of children.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Prostate Support Alcohol-Free Drops?
Prostate Support is a three-herb liquid blend: saw palmetto berry (Serenoa repens), pygeum bark (Prunus africana) and stinging nettle leaf (Urtica dioica), extracted together in equal parts in vegetable glycerin and purified water, with no alcohol. Saw palmetto is the fruit of a small palm of the southeastern United States, pygeum is the bark of an African cherry tree, and nettle is the familiar European hedgerow herb; all three are also sold on their own. It is an herbal glycerite, not a capsule. It is a botanical product and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Please read the safety note below - this blend is not suitable for everyone.
What is the difference between the alcohol-free drops and the tincture?
Both contain the same three herbs in the same proportions; only the extraction liquid differs. These drops are a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and purified water - no alcohol, a milder and naturally sweet taste that softens the soapy bitterness of saw palmetto, best kept refrigerated after opening. The tincture uses organic alcohol with vegetable glycerin and water, the classic method with the longest shelf life at room temperature. Choose whichever suits you; the safety notes apply to both.
Why does the blend use nettle leaf and not nettle root? Is pygeum an endangered tree?
This formula uses the leaf of stinging nettle (Urtica dioica); nettle root is a different plant part with a different traditional profile, and we sell the two as separate single extracts. Pygeum (Prunus africana), the African cherry, is listed in Appendix II of CITES, the international convention on trade in endangered species, because its bark was over-harvested in the 1990s; bark now has to be traded under permit from managed harvests, and responsible sourcing matters - this is not a wild-harvested ingredient. Saw palmetto berries come from a slow-growing palm native to Florida and the Gulf coast, where they are gathered from wild stands under state regulation.
