Appetite Control Alcohol-Free Drops
Appetite Control Alcohol-Free Glycerite, Ashwagandha Root, Holy Basil Leaf, Grape SeedAppetite Control Alcohol-Free Drops
This is an alcohol-free liquid extract (glycerite) of three ingredients extracted together in equal parts: two of the best-known plants of Indian tradition and the seed of the wine grape. Each is also sold on its own. It is a traditional herbal product - please read the safety information below before use.
- Ashwagandha, root - Withania somnifera root (Solanaceae)
- Holy basil, leaf - Ocimum tenuiflorum leaf (Lamiaceae) - tulsi
- Grape, seed - Vitis vinifera seed (Vitaceae) - grape seed, not grapefruit seed
- Extract type: Alcohol-free glycerite - liquid drops. Other ingredients: vegetable glycerin, purified water
- Origin: Responsibly sourced, cultivated botanicals from India. Gluten free. Made in the USA.
What is in the blend
- Ashwagandha - the pale, woody root of a small nightshade-family shrub of India and the Middle East; its Sanskrit name refers to the horse-like smell of the fresh root.
- Holy basil - tulsi, the sacred aromatic basil of India, grown in courtyards and temple gardens; the leaf is used.
- Grape seed - the small, hard seeds of the wine grape, a by-product of winemaking, bitter and rich in tannins. This is the seed of Vitis vinifera and not related to grapefruit.
Why the alcohol-free drops
The dried root, leaf and seed are extracted together in vegetable glycerin and purified water, so there is no ethanol in the bottle - the version to choose if you avoid alcohol. Glycerin gives the drops a mild, naturally sweet taste that softens the astringency of grape seed and ashwagandha.
What is a glycerite?
A glycerite is a liquid herbal extract made with vegetable glycerin instead of alcohol. Glycerin is a clear, naturally sweet liquid from plant oils; it extracts and preserves the water-soluble parts of the ingredients. Because glycerin is a weaker preservative than alcohol, keep the bottle refrigerated after opening. The glycerin and water percentages are printed on the label.
How to use
Shake well before use. Put the number of drops shown on the label into a little water, juice or tea and drink it, up to the frequency shown on the label. Do not exceed the label serving. Ashwagandha can be mildly relaxing, so see how it affects you before driving. Use it in courses rather than continuously. Refrigerate after opening and use within the period printed on the label.
Drops or tincture?
If you prefer the classic alcohol-based extract with the longest shelf life at room temperature, the same three-ingredient blend is available as Appetite Control Tincture - the alcohol-based version. The ingredients and proportions are identical; only the extraction liquid differs.
Important safety information - please read before use
Please read before use.
- Liver: rare cases of liver injury have been reported with ashwagandha products, usually within the first weeks to months of use. Stay within the label serving. Stop and see a doctor if you notice dark urine, yellowing of the skin or eyes, unusual tiredness or abdominal pain. Do not use if you have liver disease.
- Blood thinners and surgery: grape seed and holy basil may slow blood clotting - consult your doctor if you take warfarin, aspirin or similar. Stop use at least two weeks before scheduled surgery.
- Thyroid: ashwagandha and holy basil can both change thyroid hormone levels. Do not use if you have a thyroid condition or take thyroid medication without your doctor.
- Pregnancy, conception and nursing: do not use - ashwagandha and holy basil are avoided in pregnancy, and holy basil has affected fertility in animal studies.
- Drowsiness: ashwagandha may add to the effect of sedatives and alcohol.
- Blood sugar and blood pressure: ashwagandha and holy basil may lower both - monitor if you take diabetes or blood-pressure medication.
- Immune system: ashwagandha may affect immune activity - avoid if you have an autoimmune condition or take immunosuppressants.
- Allergies: ashwagandha is a nightshade-family plant; avoid grape seed if you are allergic to grapes.
- Age: not for children.
- If you have a medical condition or take medication, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Do not use it to self-treat any medical condition - see a qualified doctor instead. Keep out of reach of children.
