Eastern Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana) Chip - Topical Liquid Extract Tincture
This is an alcohol-based liquid extract (tincture) prepared from the dried wood chip of Eastern Red Cedar - Juniperus virginiana, an aromatic North American tree of the cypress family (Cupressaceae); despite the name, it is botanically a juniper, not a true cedar. This product is for external (topical / aromatic) use only.
- Botanical name: Juniperus virginiana L. (Cupressaceae)
- Plant part: Dried wood chip
- Also known as: Eastern Red Cedar, Red Cedar, Virginia Juniper, Aromatic Cedar, Pencil Cedar
- Extract type: Alcohol tincture - for external use only
- Other ingredients: Organic alcohol, vegetable glycerin, crystal clear purified water
- Origin: Responsibly sourced. Gluten free. Made in the USA.
Used externally for its aromatic character and general skin comfort. This is Eastern Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana), different from Western Red Cedar and Cedar (Thuja plicata), Thuja (Thuja occidentalis), and Juniper berry (Juniperus communis), which we carry separately. It is rich in aromatic sesquiterpenes such as cedrol; please read the safety information below before use.
External-use safety information - please read before use
Please read these cautions before using Eastern Red Cedar topical extract.
- External use only: this product is for topical and aromatic use and is not for internal use - do not swallow it. Cedarwood is rich in aromatic sesquiterpenes and can be harmful if swallowed; taken internally, cedar oil can cause serious harm, which is why we offer it strictly for external use.
- Pregnancy / nursing: Eastern red cedar is considered unsafe in pregnancy - do not use it, even externally, if you are pregnant, and avoid it while breastfeeding.
- Skin: apply to intact skin only - do not apply to broken, irritated, or sensitive skin, and keep it away from the eyes and mucous membranes. Do a patch test first, and stop if redness, itching, or rash develops. Because this is an alcohol tincture, it may sting on sensitive skin.
- Contains alcohol. Do not use on infants or children. If you have a medical condition or take medication, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Do not use it to self-treat any medical condition - see a qualified doctor instead. Keep out of reach of children.
