While all of us know parsley as a condiment and garnish, most of us never consume its most flavorful part of the root. Parsley has been an important food for at least 3,000 years. Parsley is thought to have originated in Sardinia, or the surrounding area, and to have spread across Europe by the 15th century. There are a great many myths and folktales concerning parsley. It was said to have come from the spilled blood of Archemorus when he was eaten by serpents. It was also long associated with Persephone and the underworld, which may certainly account for the lingering superstition that it is bad luck to transplant parsley; it should always be grown directly from the seed. Also, the Greek saying "to be in need of parsley" meant that someone was extremely ill and not expected to survive. Wreaths of parsley were also worn to honor the dead.*

Frequently Asked Questions about Parsley Extract
What is Parsley Root (Petroselinum crispum) extract?
Parsley root is the root form of garden parsley, a plant of the carrot or parsley family (Apiaceae), botanically Petroselinum crispum. While most people know parsley for its leaves, certain varieties - called Hamburg parsley or turnip-rooted parsley (Petroselinum crispum var. tuberosum) - are grown for their thick, pale, edible root, which is a traditional vegetable in European soups and stews. The part used here is that root. Our extract is offered in two forms - a traditional alcohol-based tincture and an alcohol-free glycerite - each from ethically sourced raw material. This is a whole-root liquid extract that carries the root's natural spectrum of constituents, not an isolated or standardized single-compound product. The parsley plant also has a leaf form, which we offer separately as parsley leaf; this product is the root. We label it clearly by botanical name and plant part.
What is the difference between the tincture and alcohol-free versions?
Both are liquid extracts of the same Petroselinum crispum root; only the solvent differs. The tincture uses alcohol as the traditional solvent, with vegetable glycerin and water. The alcohol-free version is a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and purified water, suited to those who avoid alcohol. Both deliver the root's constituents in a convenient liquid you take by the drop. Choose the tincture for a classic alcohol-extracted format with a longer shelf life; choose the glycerite if you prefer no alcohol.
Is parsley root the same as parsnip, or the parsley leaf?
Neither, and both are common points of confusion. First, parsnip: parsley root looks a lot like a small white parsnip or a pale carrot, and the two are often mixed up - but parsnip is a different plant (Pastinaca sativa), and celeriac (celery root) is yet another. Ours is the root of parsley, Petroselinum crispum, also called Hamburg or turnip-rooted parsley. Second, the leaf: this is the ROOT of parsley, not the leafy green herb. The plant's leaf form is a separate product, which we offer as parsley leaf, so you can choose the root or the leaf depending on what you want. We label our product clearly by botanical name (Petroselinum crispum) and plant part (root) so there is no confusion with parsnip, celeriac, or the parsley leaf.
How do I use Parsley Root liquid extract?
Shake well before use. Adults take 20-30 drops (approximately 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper) in 2 oz of water, tea, or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by your practitioner. See the safety note below. Drink the entire contents.
Is Parsley Root extract right for everyone? Safety and storage.
Parsley root is safe as a food vegetable in the normal amounts used in cooking. As a concentrated extract, a few notes apply. Do not use it during pregnancy, because parsley in large or medicinal amounts can stimulate the uterus. Parsley also contains vitamin K, which can interfere with blood-thinning medication such as warfarin, so talk with your doctor before use if you take an anticoagulant. Parsley may have a mild diuretic (water-losing) effect, so use caution if you take diuretic medication or have kidney disease. If you are nursing, take any other medication, or have a medical condition, also consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Keep out of reach of children, and do not exceed the suggested serving. Store this tincture in a cool, dark place. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Our Parsley (Petroselinum Crispum) Root is selected from regions with optimal growing conditions to support a high concentration of active constituents. We work only with trusted suppliers and focus on sourcing clean, well-preserved botanical material suitable for high-quality liquid extraction.

As a solvent, we use alcohol to preserve the integrity of the extract and support a clean extraction process.
To verify botanical identity and ensure consistency, all raw materials are tested in our laboratory using established analytical techniques. These include High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) for plant authentication and fingerprinting, or Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and other in-house methods. Our approach is guided by relevant standards such as those of the USP and Ph. Eur., ISO 17025 and cGLP, allowing us to maintain rigorous quality control, ensuring the material meets our specifications for identity, purity and composition.
