Buchu (Agathosma Betulina) is a small aromatic shrub native to the Cape region of South Africa, in the citrus family (Rutaceae). Its dried leaves are known for a distinctive scent often compared to blackcurrant. The part used here is the leaf of the round-leaf, or "short," buchu - the traditionally preferred type.
-
WHOLE-LEAF LIQUID EXTRACT: Made from the dried leaf of Agathosma betulina, carrying the plant's natural spectrum of constituents rather than an isolated compound.
-
ALCOHOL-FREE, GLYCERIN BASE: Our extract is 100% alcohol-free, made with a smooth vegetable glycerin base and purified water.
-
THE LEAF, NOT THE OIL: This is a whole-leaf extract taken by the drop, not the concentrated buchu essential oil used in flavor and fragrance work.
-
ROUND-LEAF BUCHU: This is Agathosma betulina (round-leaf, "short" buchu), distinct from oval-leaf buchu (Agathosma crenulata). Formerly known by the synonym Barosma betulina.
-
CLEARLY LABELED: Labeled by botanical name and plant part, so there is no confusion with the essential oil or the other species.
Agathosma betulina - Buchu Leaf (Barosma betulina)
Buchu (Agathosma betulina) is a fragrant shrub of the South African fynbos, long valued for its aromatic leaves. Our Buchu Leaf extract captures the dried leaf in a concentrated, alcohol-free liquid.
About our Buchu Leaf Extract:
We start with quality buchu leaf and, unlike alcohol-based products, our formula is 100% alcohol-free, using a gentle vegetable glycerin base. It is a whole-leaf extract - not an isolate and not the essential oil - carrying the plant's natural profile. This is Agathosma betulina, round-leaf buchu, and specifically the leaf.
Suggested use: Shake well before use. Adults take 20-30 drops (approximately 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper) in 2 oz of water, tea, or juice, up to three times a day, or as directed by your practitioner. Do not exceed the suggested serving. See the safety note above. Drink the entire contents.*
Main Ingredients: Buchu (Agathosma Betulina) Dried Leaf.
Other ingredients: vegetable glycerin USP, crystal clear water.
Additional information about ingredients: Contains NO alcohol, gluten, or artificial color.
Suggested Use: Do not use if seal is broken or missing. Store in a cool, dry place.
Safety information: Do not use during pregnancy or while nursing - buchu has traditionally been used to stimulate the uterus. Buchu leaf naturally contains pulegone, which can stress the liver in large amounts; do not exceed the suggested serving, and do not use if you have liver disease. Buchu can act as an irritating diuretic, so use caution if you have kidney disease or kidney inflammation. Keep out of reach of children and do not give to children. If you take any medication (especially diuretics or lithium) or have a medical condition, consult your doctor before use. Discontinue use and consult your practitioner if any adverse reaction occurs.
