Frequently Asked Questions about False Daisy Extract
What is False Daisy (Eclipta prostrata)?
False Daisy is a small, spreading herb of the daisy family (Asteraceae), botanically Eclipta prostrata and also known by the synonym Eclipta alba. It gets its English name from its small, daisy-like white flowers. The plant is well known across traditional systems: in Ayurveda it is called Bhringraj, and in traditional Chinese herbalism it is known as Han Lian Cao. The part used here is the leaf. This is a leaf liquid extract, offered in two forms - an alcohol-free glycerite and a traditional alcohol-based tincture - each from carefully sourced raw material. One useful point to know: our product is an oral liquid extract taken by the drop, which is different from bhringraj hair oil, the topical oil this plant is also famous for. This is a whole-leaf extract that carries the plant's natural spectrum of constituents, not an isolated compound, and we label it clearly by botanical name and plant part.
What is the difference between the alcohol-free and tincture versions?
Both are liquid extracts of the same Eclipta prostrata leaf; only the solvent differs. The alcohol-free version is a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and purified water, suited to those who avoid alcohol. The tincture uses alcohol as the traditional solvent, with vegetable glycerin and water. Both deliver the leaf's constituents in a convenient liquid you take by the drop. Choose the glycerite if you prefer no alcohol; choose the tincture for a classic alcohol-extracted format with a longer shelf life. See the safety note below.
Is this the same as bhringraj hair oil or bhringraj powder?
No, and it is a helpful distinction. This plant, Eclipta prostrata, is known in Ayurveda as Bhringraj, and you have probably seen it sold as bhringraj hair oil, a topical oil applied to the hair and scalp, or as bhringraj powder (churna). Our product is different: it is an oral liquid extract of the leaf that you take by the drop, not a hair oil and not a powder. It is the same plant, just a different preparation and a different way of using it. You may also see the names Han Lian Cao (its Chinese name) and false daisy. We label our product clearly by botanical name (Eclipta prostrata, also called Eclipta alba) and plant part (leaf) so there is no confusion with the hair oil, the powder, or the true daisy (Bellis perennis), which is a different plant.
How do I use False Daisy liquid extract?
Shake well before use. Adults take 20-30 drops (approximately 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper) in 2 oz of water, tea, or juice, up to 3 times daily, or as directed by your practitioner. See the safety note below. Drink the entire contents.
Is False Daisy extract right for everyone? Safety and storage.
False Daisy is generally well tolerated, but a few notes apply. If you are pregnant or nursing, it is best to consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before using a concentrated extract. False Daisy may lower blood sugar, so use caution if you have diabetes or take blood-sugar medication. Because it is in the daisy family (Asteraceae), people who are allergic to plants such as ragweed, chamomile, or marigolds may also react to it, so use caution if you have those sensitivities. Some people may notice mild stomach upset with concentrated extracts, so do not exceed the suggested serving. If you take any medication or have a medical condition, also consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Keep out of reach of children. This alcohol-free glycerite is best refrigerated after opening. Discontinue use and consult your practitioner if any adverse reaction occurs. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
