White Quebracho (Aspidosperma quebracho-blanco) - Bark, Alcohol-Free Liquid Extract

This is an alcohol-free glycerite (drops) of the dried bark of Aspidosperma quebracho-blanco, a South American tree of the Apocynaceae family, known in Spanish as quebracho blanco. The bark is naturally rich in active plant alkaloids, including aspidospermine and yohimbine.

  • Botanical name: Aspidosperma quebracho-blanco Schltdl. (white quebracho; Apocynaceae)
  • Plant part: Dried bark
  • Also known as: quebracho blanco, kebracho, white quebracho bark
  • Extract type: Alcohol-free glycerite (vegetable glycerin), cold-macerated
  • Other ingredients: Vegetable glycerin, crystal clear purified water
  • Origin: Bark responsibly sourced from Bolivia; prepared in the USA. Gluten free.

This is white quebracho (Aspidosperma quebracho-blanco). It is not red quebracho (Schinopsis species, unrelated trees used mainly for tannins and timber). It is also a different plant from Yohimbe (Pausinystalia yohimbe), although both naturally contain the alkaloid yohimbine, so similar cautions apply. Please read the important safety notes below before use.

IMPORTANT SAFETY WARNING - please read before use

White Quebracho bark naturally contains active alkaloids, including yohimbine, which can affect the heart and blood pressure. Use only under the supervision of a qualified healthcare practitioner.

  • Heart and blood pressure: yohimbine can raise heart rate and blood pressure and cause anxiety, nervousness or tremor; in high amounts it can cause heart palpitations, dizziness or stomach upset.
  • Do NOT use if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, an anxiety disorder, or kidney or liver problems.
  • Do NOT combine with antidepressants (especially MAO inhibitors), stimulants, or blood-pressure medications - the combination can be dangerous.
  • Pregnancy / nursing: do NOT use during pregnancy or while nursing.
  • Stop use and seek medical care if you notice a racing heartbeat, chest discomfort, severe anxiety or dizziness.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.

Frequently Asked Questions about White Quebracho Extract
What is White Quebracho (Aspidosperma quebracho-blanco) bark extract?
White Quebracho is a liquid extract of the dried bark of Aspidosperma quebracho-blanco, a South American tree of the Apocynaceae family, known in Spanish as quebracho blanco. The bark is naturally rich in active plant alkaloids (including aspidospermine and yohimbine). This tincture is cold-macerated in organic alcohol from bark responsibly sourced from Bolivia and prepared in the USA. IMPORTANT: because of its alkaloid content this bark can affect the heart and blood pressure - please read the safety notes below carefully.
What is the difference between the tincture and alcohol-free versions?
Both are liquid extracts of the same White Quebracho bark; only the solvent differs. This tincture uses organic alcohol, the classic cold-maceration method that yields a more concentrated extract with a long shelf life. The alcohol-free version is a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and purified water instead, for those who prefer to avoid alcohol. The botanical inside is identical, and the same safety notes apply to both - please read them before use.
Is this the same as red quebracho or yohimbe?
No. Our White Quebracho is Aspidosperma quebracho-blanco. It is not red quebracho, which refers to Schinopsis species - unrelated trees of a different family used mainly for tannins and timber, not this alkaloid-rich bark. It is a different plant from Yohimbe (Pausinystalia yohimbe) as well, although both naturally contain the alkaloid yohimbine, so similar cautions about the heart and blood pressure apply. We label ours clearly as Aspidosperma quebracho-blanco.
How do I use White Quebracho liquid extract?
White Quebracho should be used only under the guidance of a qualified healthcare practitioner, because of the alkaloid and heart-safety concerns described below. If used, a typical amount is about 20 to 30 drops (approximately 1 ml) in 2 oz of water, or as directed by your practitioner. Because this is an alcohol tincture, adding it to a little water softens the taste. Do not exceed the suggested serving. Read the safety information below before use.
Is White Quebracho safe? Important safety information.
Please read this carefully. White Quebracho bark naturally contains active alkaloids, including yohimbine, which can raise heart rate and blood pressure and cause anxiety, nervousness or tremor in some people; in high amounts it can cause heart palpitations, dizziness or stomach upset. For these reasons it should be used only under the supervision of a qualified healthcare practitioner. Do NOT use it if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, an anxiety disorder, or kidney or liver problems. Do NOT combine it with antidepressants (especially MAO inhibitors), stimulants, or blood-pressure medications, as the combination can be dangerous. Do NOT use during pregnancy or while nursing. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Stop use and seek medical care if you notice a racing heartbeat, chest discomfort, severe anxiety or dizziness. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
