The chaga mushroom tincture uses grain alcohol as the primary solvent, which is the traditional method of herbal extraction. Both are made from the same dried Inonotus obliquus whole mushroom. The traditional preparation of chaga as a water-based decoction is reflected in the water-glycerin profile of the glycerite drops.

Inonotus obliquus, commonly known as chaga, is a parasitic fungus in the family Hymenochaetaceae that grows as a sterile conk on the trunks of living birch trees (Betula spp.) and occasionally other deciduous trees including alder and elm. Unlike conventional mushrooms, chaga does not produce a visible fruiting body; what is harvested is the sclerotium - a dense, irregular mass of hardened mycelium - that erupts from the bark of the host tree over the course of many years, typically reaching 25-40 cm across at maturity. The exterior of the conk is black and charred-looking due to a high concentration of melanin; the interior is a distinctive rust-orange or yellow-brown. Chaga grows in northern birch forests across Russia, Siberia, northern Europe, Scandinavia, northern China, and the northern regions of the United States and Canada. The name chaga is derived from the Russian transliteration of the Komi-Permyak word for the fungus. HawaiiPharm's chaga mushroom tincture is made from dried Inonotus obliquus whole mushroom.

Use the number of drops and the frequency shown on the label, in a little water, tea or juice, or as directed by your practitioner. Add the drops to water, tea, or juice before consuming. Shake the bottle well before each use, as natural separation may occur. Store in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight. Chaga mushroom is very high in oxalates; do not use if you have a history of kidney stones or kidney disease, as high oxalate intake can increase kidney stone risk.
