Concentration Helper Alcohol-Free Drops

This is an alcohol-free liquid extract (glycerite) of three herbs extracted together in equal parts: the fan-shaped leaf of the ginkgo tree, a lemon-scented mint and a pungent meadow root. Each is also sold on its own. It is a traditional herbal product for adults that can cause drowsiness - please read the safety information below before use.

  • Ginkgo, leaf - Ginkgo biloba leaf (Ginkgoaceae)
  • Lemon balm, leaf - Melissa officinalis leaf (Lamiaceae)
  • Valerian, root - Valeriana officinalis root (Caprifoliaceae)
  • Extract type: Alcohol-free glycerite - liquid drops. Other ingredients: vegetable glycerin, purified water
  • Origin: Responsibly sourced cultivated botanicals (lemon balm from the USA, valerian from Poland). Gluten free. Made in the USA.

What is in the blend

  • Ginkgo leaf - the two-lobed, fan-shaped leaf of Ginkgo biloba, the last survivor of a tree lineage older than the dinosaurs, now planted along city streets worldwide. The leaf, not the seed, is used here.
  • Lemon balm (Melissa) - a bushy perennial of the mint family whose crushed leaves smell strongly of lemon; the Greek name Melissa, honeybee, records how much bees like its small white flowers. It is a mint, not a citrus.
  • Valerian root - the root and rhizome of a tall meadow plant of Europe and western Asia with clusters of pale pink flowers; the dried root has the strong, earthy smell that gives the plant its reputation.

Why the alcohol-free drops

The three dried herbs are extracted together in vegetable glycerin and purified water, so there is no ethanol in the bottle - the version to choose if you avoid alcohol. Glycerin gives the drops a mild, naturally sweet taste with a lemony note that softens the earthiness of valerian.

What is a glycerite?

A glycerite is a liquid herbal extract made with vegetable glycerin instead of alcohol. Glycerin is a clear, naturally sweet liquid from plant oils; it extracts and preserves the water-soluble parts of the herbs. Because glycerin is a weaker preservative than alcohol, keep the bottle refrigerated after opening. The glycerin and water percentages are printed on the label.

How to use

Adults only. Shake well before use. Put the number of drops shown on the label into a little water, juice or tea and drink it, up to the frequency shown on the label. Do not exceed the label serving. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how the blend affects you. Use it in short courses rather than continuously, and if you have taken it daily for several weeks, taper off gradually rather than stopping suddenly. Refrigerate after opening and use within the period printed on the label.

Drops or tincture?

If you prefer the classic alcohol-based extract with the longest shelf life at room temperature, the same three-herb blend is available as Concentration Helper Tincture - the alcohol-based version. The herbs and proportions are identical; only the extraction liquid differs.

Important safety information - please read before use

This blend can cause drowsiness and is for adults only. Please read before use.

  • Drowsiness: valerian and lemon balm can cause drowsiness. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how the blend affects you. Do not combine with alcohol, sedatives, benzodiazepines, antihistamines or other products that slow the nervous system - the effects add up.
  • Bleeding and surgery: ginkgo may slow blood clotting. Do not combine with warfarin, aspirin, clopidogrel or other blood thinners without your doctor. Stop use at least two weeks before surgery or dental work.
  • Pregnancy / nursing: do not use.
  • Thyroid: lemon balm may affect thyroid function - consult your doctor if you have a thyroid condition or take thyroid medication.
  • Liver: rare cases of liver injury have been reported with valerian products. Stop and see a doctor if you notice yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine or unusual fatigue.
  • Seizures: avoid ginkgo if you have epilepsy or a seizure disorder.
  • Antidepressants: consult your doctor before combining lemon balm with SSRI antidepressants.
  • Duration: use in short courses; stopping suddenly after weeks of daily valerian has caused withdrawal-type symptoms.
  • Allergies: lemon balm is a mint-family (Lamiaceae) plant.
  • Age: adults only - not for children or teenagers. This blend is not a replacement for any prescribed treatment.
  • If you have a medical condition or take medication, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Do not use it to self-treat any medical condition - see a qualified doctor instead. Keep out of reach of children.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Concentration Helper Alcohol-Free Drops?
Concentration Helper is a three-herb liquid blend: ginkgo leaf (Ginkgo biloba), lemon balm leaf (Melissa officinalis) and valerian root (Valeriana officinalis), extracted together in equal parts in vegetable glycerin and purified water, with no alcohol. Ginkgo is the fan-shaped leaf of an ancient tree, lemon balm a lemon-scented member of the mint family, and valerian the pungent root of a European meadow plant; each is also sold on its own. It is an herbal glycerite for adults, not a capsule. It is a botanical product and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Please read the safety note below - this blend can cause drowsiness and is not suitable for everyone.
What is the difference between the alcohol-free drops and the tincture?
Both contain the same three herbs in the same proportions; only the extraction liquid differs. These drops are a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and purified water - no alcohol, a milder and naturally sweet taste with a lemony note that softens the earthiness of valerian, best kept refrigerated after opening. The tincture uses organic alcohol with vegetable glycerin and water, the classic method with the longest shelf life at room temperature. Choose whichever suits you; the safety notes apply to both.
Why is valerian in Concentration Helper? Is this ginkgo leaf or seed?
Valerian root is a traditional companion to lemon balm in European herbal blends, and the two are often prepared together. Valerian can cause drowsiness, so please read the safety note and do not drive after taking the blend until you know how it affects you. This blend uses the ginkgo leaf; ginkgo seed (Bai Guo) is a different part of the same tree with a different safety profile and is not in this product. Lemon balm, despite the name, is a mint-family herb and contains no citrus. All three herbs are also available as single extracts.
How do I use Concentration Helper Drops?
