Both are liquid extracts of the same Sargentodoxa cuneata stem for external use; only the solvent differs. This tincture uses organic alcohol with vegetable glycerin and water, the classic conventional method with a long shelf life. The alcohol-free version is a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and purified water instead. Choose whichever suits your topical routine. The stem inside is identical, and the same external-use safety notes apply to both - neither is for internal use.
Is Da Xue Teng the same as Ji Xue Teng?
No - they are different plants often confused because both are "blood vines" used as stems. Da Xue Teng is Sargentodoxa cuneata (the "big blood vine," Hong Teng), in the family Lardizabalaceae, which we carry here. Ji Xue Teng is Spatholobus suberectus (the "chicken blood vine"), in the legume family (Fabaceae), which we list separately. They share the "blood vine" nickname and both use the stem, but they are different genera and families and are not interchangeable. We label this page clearly as Sargentodoxa cuneata.
