- We strictly use ethically sourced raw material, organic alcohol, and vegetable glycerin USP
Red Sage (Salvia Miltiorrhiza) is a perennial of the mint family (Lamiaceae). The part used here is the root, which has a distinctive deep red color - the source of the name red sage. It is one of the most important herbs in traditional Chinese herbalism, where it is called Dan Shen; in English it is known as red sage or Chinese sage. It is a different plant from the common garden sage used in cooking.
-
WHOLE-ROOT LIQUID EXTRACT: Made from the dried root of Salvia miltiorrhiza, carrying the plant's natural spectrum of constituents rather than an isolated or standardized single compound.
-
TRADITIONAL ALCOHOL EXTRACTION: A classic alcohol-based tincture, made with organic alcohol, vegetable glycerin, and water, for a concentrated extract with a long shelf life.
-
THE CHINESE DAN SHEN ROOT: This is Salvia miltiorrhiza, known in traditional Chinese herbalism as Dan Shen. The root naturally contains tanshinones and salvianolic acids.
-
RED SAGE, NOT KITCHEN SAGE: This is Salvia miltiorrhiza (danshen root), distinct from culinary garden sage (Salvia officinalis) and from the unrelated shrub Lantana camara, also called red sage.
-
CLEARLY LABELED: Labeled by botanical name and plant part, so there is no confusion with culinary sage, Lantana, or other plants.
Salvia miltiorrhiza - Red Sage, Dan Shen
Red Sage (Salvia miltiorrhiza) is prized in traditional Chinese herbalism for its deep-red root, known there as Dan Shen. Our Red Sage tincture captures the dried root in a concentrated, alcohol-based liquid extract.
About our Red Sage Tincture:
We start with quality red sage root and use a classic, conventional alcohol extraction with organic alcohol, vegetable glycerin, and water. It is a whole-root extract - not an isolate - carrying the plant's natural profile. This is specifically Salvia miltiorrhiza, the Chinese danshen.
Suggested use:Shake well before use. Adults take 20-30 drops (approximately 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper) in 2 oz of water, tea, or juice, up to four times a day, or as directed by your practitioner. Please read the safety information below before use, especially regarding blood-thinning medication. Drink the entire contents.*
Main Ingredients: Red Sage / Dan Shen (Salvia Miltiorrhiza) Dried Root.
Other ingredients: organic alcohol, vegetable glycerin USP, crystal clear water.
Additional information about ingredients: Contains NO gluten or artificial color.
Suggested Use: Do not use if seal is broken or missing. Store in a cool, dry place.
Safety information: Danshen can increase the effect of blood-thinning and anticoagulant medications and raise the risk of bleeding; this is especially well documented with warfarin. Do not use this product if you take warfarin, another anticoagulant, or an antiplatelet medication such as aspirin, unless your doctor is guiding you. Stop use before any surgery or dental procedure. Use caution if you take blood-pressure medication. Do not use during pregnancy. Keep out of reach of children. If you are nursing or taking any medications, consult your doctor before use. Discontinue use and consult your practitioner if any adverse reaction occurs.
