Each is also sold on its own. It is a traditional herbal product for adults only, not for use in pregnancy, and several of its herbs interact with prescription medicines - please read the safety information below before use.

What is in the blend
- Black cohosh - a tall plant of the buttercup family from the hardwood forests of eastern North America, with slender spikes of white flowers; the dark, knotted root is used.
- Vitex (chaste tree) - a Mediterranean shrub with fragrant lilac flower spikes and small peppery berries, named for its medieval reputation among monks; the dried berry is used.
- Dong quai - the aromatic root of a Chinese angelica from the cool mountain valleys of Gansu and Yunnan, one of the classic roots of Chinese herbal tradition.
- Motherwort - a tall, bitter mint-family herb with whorls of small pink flowers, named for its long history in the care of mothers; the flowering herb is used.
- St John's wort - a sunny meadow plant with star-shaped yellow flowers that bloom around midsummer; one of the most studied herbs in Europe, and one of the most likely to interact with medicines.
- Wild yam - a twining vine of eastern North American woods with heart-shaped leaves; the knotted tuber is used. It contains diosgenin, a raw material chemists use to make hormones in the laboratory, but the human body cannot make that conversion.
- Flax seed - the small brown seed of the flax plant, the same seed used as a food, rich in mucilage, oil and lignans.
Why the alcohol-free drops
The seven dried herbs are extracted together in vegetable glycerin and purified water, so there is no ethanol in the bottle - the version to choose if you avoid alcohol. Glycerin gives the drops a mild, naturally sweet taste that softens the earthy bitterness of the roots.
What is a glycerite?
A glycerite is a liquid herbal extract made with vegetable glycerin instead of alcohol. Glycerin is a clear, naturally sweet liquid from plant oils; it extracts and preserves the water-soluble parts of the herbs. Because glycerin is a weaker preservative than alcohol, keep the bottle refrigerated after opening. The glycerin and water percentages are printed on the label.
How to use
Adults only. Shake well before use. Put the number of drops shown on the label into a little water, juice or tea and drink it, up to the frequency shown on the label. Do not exceed the label serving. Do not use it for more than six months at a time without talking to your practitioner. Avoid strong sun and tanning beds while using it. Refrigerate after opening and use within the period printed on the label.
Drops or tincture?
If you prefer the classic alcohol-based extract with the longest shelf life at room temperature, the same seven-herb blend is available as Femenol Tincture - the alcohol-based version. The herbs and proportions are identical; only the extraction liquid differs. Our Menopause Care Alcohol-Free Drops is a different three-herb blend of black cohosh, red clover and red ginseng.
Important safety information - please read before use
This blend contains St John's wort, vitex and black cohosh. It interacts with many prescription medicines, must not be used in pregnancy, and is for adults only. Please read before use.
- Prescription medicines: St John's wort speeds up the breakdown of many drugs - it can make oral contraceptives fail and reduces the effect of warfarin, digoxin, statins, HIV antiretrovirals, transplant immunosuppressants and some chemotherapy. Vitex may reduce the effect of antipsychotics and hormonal contraceptives and increase the effect of dopamine agonists such as levodopa. Do not use with any prescription medicine without your doctor or pharmacist.
- Antidepressants: do not combine with SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs, tramadol or triptans - the combination can cause serotonin syndrome, which is dangerous.
- Pregnancy / nursing: do not use - dong quai and motherwort stimulate the uterus, and vitex, black cohosh and wild yam act on hormone pathways.
- Hormone-sensitive conditions: do not use if you have or have had breast, uterine or ovarian cancer, endometriosis or fibroids, or take hormone therapy.
- Bipolar disorder: St John's wort may trigger mania - do not use.
- Duration: do not use for more than six months at a time without talking to your practitioner.
- See a doctor: if you feel persistently unwell, see a qualified doctor. This blend is not a replacement for any prescribed treatment.
- Age: adults only.
- If you have a medical condition or take medication, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Do not use it to self-treat any medical condition - see a qualified doctor instead. Keep out of reach of children.
