Elecampane (Inula helenium) is a tall perennial of the daisy family, Asteraceae, native to Europe and western Asia and naturalized in North America. Stems reach 1.5-2.5 m, with large, velvety, pointed leaves and bright yellow flower heads with thin, ragged rays. The thick, branching root is aromatic, with a camphor-like scent and a bitter, earthy taste, and was once candied in European confectionery. We extract the dried root.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
