Haritaki (Terminalia chebula), the black or chebulic myrobalan, is a large deciduous tree of the leadwood family, Combretaceae, native to South and Southeast Asia from India and Nepal to Yunnan and Vietnam. It grows 25-30 m with a rounded crown, dark brown bark, oval leaves clustered at the branch tips and spikes of small, dull white, strongly scented flowers. The ribbed, oval fruits ripen yellow to black and dry hard, with an extremely astringent, sour taste. We extract the dried fruit.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
