About Scutellaria galericulata

Marsh Skullcap (Scutellaria galericulata), the common or hooded skullcap, is a slender perennial of the mint family, Lamiaceae, native to wet meadows, fens and stream banks across Europe, Asia and North America. It grows 20-60 cm tall with square stems, opposite, lance-shaped, shallowly toothed leaves and pairs of blue-violet, two-lipped flowers in the leaf axils, each with the small hooded calyx that resembles a cap and gives the genus its name. The herb is faintly bitter and not aromatic. We extract the dried root.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
