Mexican Tarragon (Tagetes lucida), the sweet marigold or pericon, is a bushy perennial of the daisy family, Asteraceae, native to the highlands of Mexico and Guatemala and grown as a tarragon substitute where summers are hot. It grows 50-80 cm tall with narrow, glossy, finely toothed leaves and, in late summer, flat clusters of small golden-yellow marigold flowers. The whole plant smells and tastes of anise and tarragon, and in Mexico the flowering stems are brewed and tied into bundles for the Day of the Dead. We extract the dried stems and flowers.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
