Mexican Tarragon (Tagetes Lucida) Stems and Flowers Tincture

Both are liquid extracts of the same Tagetes lucida stems and flowers; only the solvent differs. This tincture uses organic alcohol with vegetable glycerin and water, the classic conventional method that yields a super-concentrated extract with a long shelf life. The alcohol-free version is a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and crystal clear water instead, for those who prefer to avoid alcohol. Choose the tincture for a traditional alcohol-extracted format; choose the glycerite if you prefer no alcohol. The botanical inside is identical. Please follow the safety notes for both.

Several plants share these names, so it is worth being clear. Mexican tarragon is Tagetes lucida - our product - used as a tarragon substitute for its anise-like flavor. True or French tarragon is a different plant, Artemisia dracunculus, which we sell separately; interestingly, both contain estragole. "Marigold" is even more confusing: pot marigold (Calendula officinalis) is a different genus entirely, and the common garden marigolds are other Tagetes species (Tagetes erecta and patula). We label ours clearly as Tagetes lucida so it is not mixed up. One more note: although Tagetes lucida has a history of ritual use (the Aztec name Yauhtli), we sell it strictly as a botanical extract, not for any psychoactive purpose - please see the safety section.

Shake well before use. The suggested serving for adults is 20 to 30 drops (approximately 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper) in 2 oz of water or juice, or as directed by your healthcare practitioner. Because this is an alcohol tincture, adding it to a little water softens the taste. Do not exceed the suggested serving, and use it only short-term. Please read this carefully. Tagetes lucida naturally contains estragole and methyleugenol - aromatic compounds that, in laboratory studies at high doses, are genotoxic and carcinogenic (they belong to the same chemical family as safrole), and health authorities advise keeping intake as low as practically achievable. For this reason, use this product only in small amounts and only short-term, and do not use it continuously. This plant also has a history of ritual/psychoactive use; we do not sell it for that purpose, and it should not be used to try to achieve psychoactive effects. A few more cautions: in larger amounts it can irritate the stomach and, on contact, the skin; because it is in the daisy/ragweed family, avoid it if you are allergic to ragweed, chrysanthemums or marigolds; and it may add to the effect of sedatives, other calming medications, or blood thinners, so consult your practitioner if you take these. Do NOT use during pregnancy or while nursing. Keep to the suggested serving and do not exceed it. If you take any medication or have a medical condition, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Keep out of reach of children.
