This is an alcohol-free (glycerite) liquid extract of the dried stems and flowers of Tagetes lucida (Mexican tarragon / Mexican mint marigold / sweet mace, Asteraceae family; historically called Yauhtli).

This is Tagetes lucida - a different plant from true/French tarragon (Artemisia dracunculus) and from pot marigold (Calendula officinalis) and garden marigolds (Tagetes erecta/patula), which are separate. Please read the safety notes below.

The essential oil of Tagetes lucida is naturally rich in estragole and methyleugenol, aromatic compounds that in high-dose laboratory studies are genotoxic and carcinogenic (the same chemical family as safrole). Health authorities advise keeping intake as low as practically achievable.
- Use only in small amounts and only short-term. Keep strictly to the suggested serving; do not use continuously.
- Not for psychoactive use. This plant has a history of ritual/psychoactive use; we do not sell it for that purpose, and it should not be used to seek psychoactive effects.
- Allergy: it is in the daisy/ragweed (Asteraceae) family - avoid if you are allergic to ragweed, chrysanthemums or marigolds. In larger amounts it can irritate the stomach and skin.
