Nut Grass (Cyperus rotundus), the purple nutsedge or xiang fu in China, is a perennial sedge of the sedge family, Cyperaceae, native to Africa, southern Europe and Asia and now one of the most widespread weeds of warm climates worldwide. It grows 20-40 cm tall with three-angled stems, narrow, grass-like leaves and a loose, umbrella-like cluster of reddish-brown to purple spikelets. Underground runners bear chains of small, hard, dark tubers that smell of camphor and taste bitter and aromatic. We extract the dried rhizome.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
