Osha (Ligusticum porteri) is a robust perennial of the carrot family, Apiaceae, native to the high mountains of the Rocky Mountain region and northern Mexico, where it grows in moist meadows and aspen groves. It has finely divided, parsley-like leaves, stout hollow stems and flat umbels of white flowers, and its hairy, dark brown root carries a strong, spicy, celery-like scent that gives it the name "bear root". The plant is wild-harvested and difficult to cultivate. We extract the dried root.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
