Quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa) is an annual of the amaranth family, Amaranthaceae, domesticated in the Andes of Peru and Bolivia several thousand years ago and now grown from the altiplano to Colorado and Europe. It stands 1 to 2 meters with a stout, often red or purple stem, broad goosefoot-shaped leaves and dense, branched panicles of tiny flowers that mature into clusters of small flat seeds in white, red or black. The seed coat is coated in bitter saponins, which are rinsed off before cooking. We extract the dried seed.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
