Rhodiola (Rhodiola rosea) is golden root or roseroot, a succulent perennial of the stonecrop family, Crassulaceae, native to arctic and alpine regions across Europe, Asia and North America, where it grows on cliffs, scree and sea rocks. It forms clumps of fleshy, blue-green, toothed leaves on stems 5 to 35 cm tall, topped in early summer by dense heads of small yellow, sometimes red-tinged flowers, with male and female plants separate. The thick, branching rhizome is yellow-brown and when cut smells of roses, hence the species name. We extract the dried root.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
