Sage (Salvia officinalis) is common or garden sage, an evergreen subshrub of the mint family, Lamiaceae, native to the northern Mediterranean, particularly the Balkan coast, and grown as a culinary herb across Europe and North America. It forms a woody-based bush 30 to 70 cm tall with velvety grey-green, oblong leaves finely wrinkled on the surface and white beneath, releasing a warm, resinous, slightly camphorous scent. Spikes of violet-blue two-lipped flowers open in early summer. We extract the dried leaf.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
