Solomon's Seal (Polygonatum biflorum) is the smooth Solomon's seal, a perennial of the asparagus family, Asparagaceae, native to the woodlands of eastern and central North America from Canada to Florida and Texas. A single arching, unbranched stem 30 to 90 cm tall carries alternate, oval, parallel-veined leaves, and from each leaf axil hang one or two small greenish-white, bell-shaped flowers in spring, followed by dark blue berries. The knotted white rhizome creeps horizontally and bears round scars where old stems have fallen, likened to a wax seal. We extract the dried rhizome.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
