Yucca (Yucca glauca) is the soapweed yucca or Great Plains yucca, a stemless evergreen perennial of the asparagus family, Asparagaceae, native to the dry prairies and badlands of the central United States and Canada from Alberta to Texas. It forms a dense rosette 60 to 90 cm across of stiff, narrow, grey-green, sharp-tipped leaves edged with white and fraying into curly threads, and in early summer sends up a stalk 1 to 2 meters tall with pendant, greenish-white, bell-shaped flowers pollinated only by yucca moths. The thick root foams in water from saponins. We extract the dried root.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
