Important safety information - please read before use

Laggera (Laggera alata) has a generally mild safety profile, but a few cautions apply.

  • Not for long-term use: keep to short-term use and do not exceed the suggested serving - in animal studies, high sub-chronic doses were associated with mild increases in liver enzymes, so it is not intended for prolonged or high-dose use.
  • Pregnancy / nursing: do NOT use it during pregnancy, and consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use if you are breastfeeding. It is also not recommended for children under 18.
  • Allergy: because Laggera is in the daisy family (Asteraceae), use caution if you are allergic to ragweed, chamomile, marigold or chrysanthemum.
  • Contains alcohol. Do not use it to self-treat any medical condition - see a qualified doctor instead. If you take any medication or have a medical condition, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Keep out of reach of children.

Frequently Asked Questions about Laggera Extract
What is Laggera / Chou Ling Dan (Laggera alata) herb extract?
Laggera is a liquid extract of the dried herb (whole plant) of Laggera alata, of the Asteraceae (daisy) family, known in traditional Chinese medicine as Chou Ling Dan and also called winged laggera or liulengju. You may also see it under the botanical synonym Blumea alata. This tincture is extracted with organic alcohol. Two things matter for safety: it is best kept to short-term use rather than long, continuous use, and it should not be used in pregnancy. Because it is in the daisy family, people with ragweed or chamomile allergies should be cautious. Please read the safety notes below.
What is the difference between the tincture and alcohol-free versions?
Both are liquid extracts of the same Laggera alata herb; only the solvent differs. This tincture uses organic alcohol with vegetable glycerin and water, the classic conventional method that yields a concentrated extract with a long shelf life. The alcohol-free version is a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and purified water instead, for those who prefer to avoid alcohol. Choose the tincture for a traditional alcohol-extracted format; choose the glycerite if you prefer no alcohol. The herb inside is identical, and the same safety notes apply to both.
What is Laggera alata, and is it related to other herbs?
Laggera alata is a member of the Asteraceae, the large daisy or sunflower family, and it grows in China, Africa and parts of Asia, which is why it has so many regional names - Chou Ling Dan and liulengju in China, keskesse and efwatfwat in Africa, gadhapuran and kukkundar in South Asia. It is sometimes listed under the older botanical name Blumea alata, a synonym for the same plant. We label ours clearly as Laggera alata (Chou Ling Dan) so its identity is unambiguous. As with any daisy-family herb, those allergic to ragweed, chamomile or chrysanthemum should be cautious.
How do I use Laggera liquid extract?
Shake well first. A typical amount is 20 to 30 drops (approximately 1 ml) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to a few times a day, or as directed by your healthcare practitioner. Do not exceed the suggested serving, and keep to short-term use unless a qualified practitioner advises otherwise. Because this is an alcohol tincture, adding it to water softens the taste. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct light, and shake before each use.
Is Laggera right for everyone? Safety information.
Laggera alata has a generally mild safety profile in studies, but a few sensible cautions apply. Long-term use: keep to short-term use and do not exceed the suggested serving - in animal studies, high sub-chronic doses were associated with mild increases in liver enzymes, so it is not intended for prolonged or high-dose use. Pregnancy and nursing: do NOT use it during pregnancy, and consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use if you are breastfeeding; it is also not recommended for children under 18. Allergy: because Laggera is in the daisy family (Asteraceae), use caution if you are allergic to ragweed, chamomile, marigold or chrysanthemum. If you take any medication or have a medical condition, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Do not use it to self-treat any medical condition - see a qualified doctor instead. This tincture contains alcohol and should be stored in a cool, dark place. Keep out of reach of children. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. ETHICALLY SOURCED, NATURAL INGREDIENTS
Our Laggera (Laggera Alata) Herb is selected from regions with optimal growing conditions to support a high concentration of active constituents. We work only with trusted suppliers and focus on sourcing clean, well-preserved botanical material suitable for high-quality liquid extraction.

As a solvent, we use alcohol to preserve the integrity of the extract and support a clean extraction process.
To verify botanical identity and ensure consistency, all raw materials are tested in our laboratory using established analytical techniques. These include High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) for plant authentication and fingerprinting, or Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and other in-house methods. Our approach is guided by relevant standards such as those of the USP and Ph. Eur., ISO 17025 and cGLP, allowing us to maintain rigorous quality control, ensuring the material meets our specifications for identity, purity and composition.
METICULOUS EXTRACT PREPARATION
Hawaii Pharm determines the optimal herb-to-menstruum ratio for each botanical. For alcohol-based extracts, we use a carefully balanced alcohol blend to ensure maximum extraction of active compounds while preserving the plant's natural integrity.
Our master herbalists analyze each batch and adjust extraction parameters as needed, ensuring consistent quality despite natural variations in botanical sources.
The result is a potent, stable liquid extract that captures the full spectrum of the botanical's benefits.
COMPREHENSIVE LABORATORY TESTING
Every batch undergoes multiple quality assurance tests including:
  • Organoleptic evaluation (color, consistency, aroma)
  • FTIR and/or HPTLC spectral analysis for identity confirmation
  • Microbiological testing (total plate count, E. coli, coliforms)
  • Yeast and mold screening
  • Alcohol content verification
