Larynx Protector Alcohol-Free Drops

This is an alcohol-free liquid extract (glycerite) of three herbs extracted together: the aromatic leaf of the Australian blue gum, the cool leaf of peppermint, and the mucilage-rich inner bark of the slippery elm. Each is also sold on its own. It is a traditional herbal product for adults only - please read the safety information below before use.

  • Eucalyptus, leaf - Eucalyptus globulus leaf (Myrtaceae) - whole-leaf extract, not the essential oil
  • Peppermint, leaf - Mentha x piperita leaf (Lamiaceae)
  • Slippery elm, bark - Ulmus rubra inner bark (Ulmaceae)
  • Extract type: Alcohol-free glycerite - liquid drops. Other ingredients: vegetable glycerin, purified water
  • Origin: Responsibly sourced botanicals (eucalyptus from Chile, peppermint and slippery elm from the USA). Gluten free. Made in the USA.

What is in the blend

  • Eucalyptus leaf - the long, sickle-shaped, blue-grey leaf of the Tasmanian blue gum, a fast-growing tree planted around the world; the dried leaf is extracted whole here, which is a very different thing from the distilled essential oil. The leaf carries cineole, the aromatic compound of eucalyptus, which is why this blend is for adults only.
  • Peppermint leaf - the leaf of the familiar garden mint, a natural hybrid of water mint and spearmint, with its cool menthol scent.
  • Slippery elm bark - the pale inner bark of a North American elm, which becomes slippery when wet because of its mucilage. The tree is wild-harvested and listed as at-risk by United Plant Savers, so we source it responsibly.

Why the alcohol-free drops

The three dried herbs are extracted together in vegetable glycerin and purified water, so there is no ethanol in the bottle - the version to choose if you avoid alcohol. Glycerin gives the drops a mild, naturally sweet taste that softens the cool, camphor-like note of the leaves.

What is a glycerite?

A glycerite is a liquid herbal extract made with vegetable glycerin instead of alcohol. Glycerin is a clear, naturally sweet liquid from plant oils; it extracts and preserves the water-soluble parts of the herbs - including the mucilage of slippery elm. Because glycerin is a weaker preservative than alcohol, keep the bottle refrigerated after opening. The glycerin and water percentages are printed on the label.

How to use

Shake well before use. Put the number of drops shown on the label into a little water, juice or tea and drink it, up to the frequency shown on the label. Do not exceed the label serving. Take it at least one to two hours apart from medicines, because slippery elm can slow their absorption. Refrigerate after opening and use within the period printed on the label.

Drops or tincture?

If you prefer the classic alcohol-based extract with the longest shelf life at room temperature, the same three-herb blend is available as Larynx Protector Tincture - the alcohol-based version. The herbs and proportions are identical; only the extraction liquid differs.

Important safety information - please read before use

This blend contains eucalyptus leaf and is for adults only. Please read before use.

  • Children: eucalyptus leaf contains cineole, which has caused seizures and drowsiness in children even in small amounts. This blend is for adults only; never give it to children.
  • Seizure disorders: do not use if you have a history of seizures.
  • Do not exceed the label serving: too much eucalyptus can cause nausea, dizziness or drowsiness. Stop and seek medical help if these occur.
  • Digestion: peppermint can relax the valve at the top of the stomach. Avoid if you have chronic heartburn, reflux or a hiatal hernia, and consult your doctor if you have gallstones or a blocked bile duct.
  • Medicines: slippery elm coats the gut and can slow the absorption of medicines. Take them one to two hours apart.
  • Pregnancy / nursing: do not use.
  • Allergies: peppermint is a mint-family (Lamiaceae) plant; eucalyptus is a myrtle-family (Myrtaceae) plant.
  • If you have a medical condition or take medication, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Do not use it to self-treat any medical condition - see a qualified doctor instead. Keep out of reach of children.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Larynx Protector Alcohol-Free Drops?
Larynx Protector is a three-herb liquid blend: eucalyptus leaf (Eucalyptus globulus), peppermint leaf (Mentha x piperita) and slippery elm bark (Ulmus rubra), extracted together in vegetable glycerin and purified water, with no alcohol. Eucalyptus is the tall blue-gum tree of Australia, grown here in Chile, with long sickle-shaped aromatic leaves; peppermint is the familiar cool, sharp-scented garden mint; slippery elm is the mucilage-rich inner bark of a North American elm. Each is also sold on its own. It is an herbal glycerite, not a capsule, and it is for adults only. It is a botanical product and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Please read the safety note below - eucalyptus is unsuitable for children, and the blend has other cautions.
What is the difference between the alcohol-free drops and the tincture?
Both contain the same three herbs in the same proportions; only the extraction liquid differs. These drops are a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and purified water - no alcohol, a milder and naturally sweet taste that softens the cool, camphor-like note of the leaves, best kept refrigerated after opening. The tincture uses organic alcohol with vegetable glycerin and water, the classic method with the longest shelf life at room temperature. Choose whichever suits you; the safety notes apply to both.
Is this the same as eucalyptus oil? What is slippery elm?
No. This blend is a water-and-glycerin extract of the whole dried eucalyptus leaf, not the concentrated essential oil that is distilled from it; the essential oil is many times stronger and is never taken by mouth undiluted. The leaf extract still carries cineole, the aromatic compound of eucalyptus, which is why the blend is for adults only. Slippery elm is the pale inner bark of Ulmus rubra, a North American elm; it is rich in mucilage, which turns slippery when wet, and it is also used in our Rectum Lining Support blend. Slippery elm is a wild-harvested tree listed as at-risk by United Plant Savers, so we source it responsibly. Eucalyptus, peppermint and slippery elm are each available as single extracts.
