Memory Booster Tincture

This is an alcohol-based liquid extract (tincture) of three leafy herbs extracted together in equal parts: the fan-shaped leaf of the ginkgo tree, the whole herb of gotu kola and the needle-like leaf of rosemary. Each is also sold on its own. It is a traditional herbal product - please read the safety information below before use.

  • Ginkgo, leaf - Ginkgo biloba leaf (Ginkgoaceae)
  • Gotu kola, herb - Centella asiatica herb (Apiaceae)
  • Rosemary, leaf - Rosmarinus officinalis leaf (syn. Salvia rosmarinus; Lamiaceae)
  • Extract type: Alcohol tincture. Other ingredients: organic alcohol, vegetable glycerin, crystal clear purified water
  • Origin: Responsibly sourced cultivated botanicals. Gluten free. Made in the USA.

What is in the blend

  • Ginkgo leaf - the two-lobed, fan-shaped leaf of Ginkgo biloba, the sole survivor of a tree lineage that predates the dinosaurs; the tree is now planted on city streets worldwide, and the leaf, not the seed, is used here.
  • Gotu kola - a small creeping plant with round, scalloped leaves that grows along ditches and paddies of South Asia; in Ayurveda it is called mandukaparni, the frog-leaf, for its damp habitat. The whole above-ground herb is used.
  • Rosemary leaf - the aromatic evergreen of the Mediterranean scrub, a member of the mint family with narrow leathery leaves and a resinous, piney scent familiar from the kitchen.

Why a tincture

The three dried herbs are macerated together in organic alcohol with a little vegetable glycerin and water - the classic herbal method. A tincture keeps for years at room temperature in a cool, dark place, has a bitter, resinous taste with a clear note of rosemary, and a few drops disappear in a glass of water or juice. A serving of 20 to 30 drops is roughly 1 ml of liquid, so the amount of alcohol per serving is small.

How to use

Shake well before use. Put the number of drops shown on the label into a little water or juice and drink it, up to the frequency shown on the label. Do not exceed the label serving. Store in a cool, dark place with the cap tight.

Tincture or drops?

If you avoid alcohol or prefer a milder taste, the same three-herb blend is available as Memory Booster Alcohol-Free Drops - the glycerite version. The herbs and proportions are identical; only the extraction liquid differs. The same three herbs are also offered as Brain And Memory Care Tincture.

Important safety information - please read before use

Each of the three herbs in this blend carries documented cautions. Please read before use.

  • Bleeding: ginkgo and rosemary may slow blood clotting. Do not combine with warfarin, aspirin, clopidogrel or other blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs without your doctor. Stop use at least two weeks before scheduled surgery or dental work.
  • Pregnancy / nursing: do not use - all three herbs are traditionally avoided in pregnancy.
  • Liver: rare cases of liver injury have been reported with gotu kola. Stay within the label serving. Stop and see a doctor if you notice yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine or unusual fatigue.
  • Seizures: avoid if you have epilepsy or a seizure disorder.
  • Sedatives: gotu kola may add to the effect of sedative medicines and alcohol.
  • Diabetes medication: rosemary may affect blood sugar - consult your practitioner.
  • Allergies: rosemary is a mint-family (Lamiaceae) plant; gotu kola can cause skin sensitivity in some people.
  • Age: not for children.
  • Contains alcohol. If you have a medical condition or take medication, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Do not use it to self-treat any medical condition - see a qualified doctor instead. Keep out of reach of children.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Memory Booster Tincture?
Memory Booster is a three-herb liquid blend: ginkgo leaf (Ginkgo biloba), gotu kola herb (Centella asiatica) and rosemary leaf (Rosmarinus officinalis), extracted together in equal parts in organic alcohol with a little vegetable glycerin and water. Ginkgo is the fan-leaved tree of ancient lineage, gotu kola a small creeping plant of wet tropical ground, and rosemary the needle-leaved Mediterranean evergreen of the mint family; each is also sold on its own. It is a liquid herbal tincture, not a capsule. The same three herbs are also offered under the name Brain And Memory Care. It is a botanical product and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Please read the safety note below.
What is the difference between the tincture and the alcohol-free drops?
Both contain the same three herbs in the same proportions; only the extraction liquid differs. This tincture uses organic alcohol with vegetable glycerin and water - the classic method with the longest shelf life at room temperature and a bitter, resinous taste with a clear note of rosemary. The alcohol-free version is a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and purified water, milder and naturally sweet, for those who avoid alcohol. Choose whichever suits you; the safety notes apply to both.
Is this ginkgo leaf or ginkgo seed? Is gotu kola the same as kola nut?
This blend uses the ginkgo leaf. Ginkgo seed (Bai Guo in Chinese tradition) is a different part of the same tree with a different safety profile, and it is not in this product. Gotu kola (Centella asiatica) is a small leafy plant of the carrot family and has nothing to do with kola nut (Cola species) despite the similar name - it contains no caffeine, and neither do the other two herbs. Rosemary here is the dried leaf, not the essential oil. All three herbs are also available as single extracts.
