Frequently Asked Questions about Rupturewort Extract
What is Rupturewort (Herniaria glabra) herb extract?
Rupturewort is a liquid extract of the dried above-ground herb of Herniaria glabra, a small mat-forming European plant of the Caryophyllaceae family, also called smooth rupturewort or burstwort. This alcohol-free version is a vegetable-glycerin glycerite, cold-macerated from herb responsibly sourced and prepared in the USA. Please read the safety notes below.
What is the difference between the alcohol-free and tincture versions?
Both are liquid extracts of the same Rupturewort herb; only the solvent differs. This alcohol-free version is a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and purified water, giving it a milder taste that suits those who prefer to avoid alcohol. The tincture uses organic alcohol, the classic cold-maceration method that yields a more concentrated extract. The botanical inside is identical, and the same safety notes apply to both.
Why is it called rupturewort - does it treat a hernia?
The names rupturewort and burstwort come from old folk tradition, where the plant was linked by the historical "doctrine of signatures" to rupture or hernia. This is a traditional name only, not a proven medical use. A hernia is a medical condition that should be assessed and treated by a doctor - please do not rely on any herb for it. We simply label the plant by its historical name and its botanical name, Herniaria glabra.
How do I use Rupturewort liquid extract?
Shake well first. Use the number of drops and the frequency shown on the label, in a little water, tea or juice, or as directed by your practitioner. This alcohol-free glycerite has a mild taste. Do not exceed the suggested serving, and read the safety information below before use.
Is Rupturewort right for everyone? Safety information.
Rupturewort is considered low in toxicity, but a few points matter. If you have any urinary symptoms - such as difficulty passing water, water retention, blood in the urine, a suspected urinary infection, or kidney or bladder stones - see a qualified doctor and do NOT try to self-treat, as these can need medical care. The herb is naturally rich in saponins and is traditionally water-promoting (diuretic), so do not exceed the suggested serving, and use caution if you take a diuretic (water pill) medication. Do NOT use during pregnancy; if you are nursing, take any medication, or have a medical condition, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Keep out of reach of children. Store as directed on the label. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
