It is annual or biennial with upright stems that grow from 20 to 80 cm tall. Plants have long petioled basal leaves that are ovate-cordate in shape. The leaves have toothed margins and are incised with deeply cut lobes. Typically one or a few flowering stems are produced from short tap-roots.*

Frequently Asked Questions about Siberian Motherwort Extract
What is Siberian Motherwort (Leonurus sibiricus) leaf tincture?
Siberian motherwort, also called honeyweed, is an annual or biennial herb of the mint family (Lamiaceae), botanically Leonurus sibiricus, native to Siberia, Mongolia, northern China and Korea. The part used here is the dried leaf, the plant part stated on our label. It is a close relative of common motherwort (Leonurus cardiaca) but a distinct species, with finely divided leaves and its own long history as a bitter folk herb across Siberia and East Asia; the leaf carries the alkaloid leonurine and bitter diterpenes that give the genus its character. This tincture is extracted with organic alcohol, vegetable glycerin and water from the dried leaf in an FDA registered facility in the USA. It is a whole-leaf liquid extract carrying the natural spectrum of the plant, not an isolated or standardized compound, and it is labeled by botanical name and plant part so it is not confused with common motherwort. These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA.
What is the difference between the tincture and the alcohol-free extract?
Both are liquid extracts of the same dried Leonurus sibiricus leaf; only the extraction liquid differs. This tincture uses organic alcohol with vegetable glycerin and water, the classic method with a long shelf life. The alcohol-free version is a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and purified water, for those who prefer to avoid alcohol. Both are taken by the drop in water, tea or juice, and the same safety notes apply to both. Our common Motherwort (Leonurus cardiaca) products are a different species, listed separately.
What is Leonurus sibiricus?
Leonurus sibiricus is the Siberian motherwort, a member of the mint family (Lamiaceae). It is an upright annual or biennial, usually 20-80 cm tall, with square stems, deeply cut three-lobed leaves and whorls of small pink to purple flowers along the upper stem. Its native range runs from Siberia and Mongolia through northern China to Korea, and it has naturalized in parts of the Americas, where it is known in Mexico and Brazil under the Spanish name marihuanilla because of a local custom of smoking the leaf. Our product is an oral dietary supplement extract taken by the drop; it is not a smoking product. The genus name Leonurus means lion's tail, after the shaggy flower spikes. Three plants are easily confused: Leonurus cardiaca, the common motherwort of European herbalism, which we sell separately; Leonurus japonicus, the Yi Mu Cao of Chinese herbalism; and Leonotis species sold as wild dagga or lion's tail. We label our product by botanical name and plant part to avoid that confusion. HawaiiPharm's Siberian Motherwort tincture is made from dried Leonurus sibiricus leaf.
How do I use Siberian Motherwort Leaf Tincture?
Shake well before use. The label serving is 20-30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper) in a glass of water, tea or juice, up to 4 times a day, or as directed by your practitioner. Adding the tincture to water softens the taste. Store in a cool, dark place with the cap tight, and keep out of reach of children. Do not exceed the suggested serving size unless directed by a healthcare professional.
Are there any precautions when taking Siberian Motherwort supplement?
Do not use during pregnancy: plants of the Leonurus genus are traditionally regarded as uterine stimulants, so use in pregnancy is contraindicated. Avoid while nursing, as safety data is lacking. Siberian motherwort may cause drowsiness; do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you, and do not combine it with alcohol, sedatives or sleep medicines. If you take medication for blood pressure, heart rhythm or blood thinning, or have any medical condition, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Not for anyone under 18. Use for short periods rather than continuously. This is an oral extract: do not smoke or inhale it. People sensitive to mint-family plants may react to it. Keep out of reach of children. This tincture contains alcohol. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

To verify botanical identity and ensure consistency, all raw materials are tested in our laboratory using established analytical techniques.
