What is Rugosa Rose Bud (Mei Gui Hua) extract?
Rugosa rose bud extract is a dietary supplement made from the dried flower bud of Rosa rugosa, a rose of the family Rosaceae known in English as the rugosa rose, beach rose, or Japanese rose. In traditional Chinese herbalism this flower bud is called Mei Gui Hua, and in pharmacy references it appears as Flos Rosae Rugosae. Our extract is made specifically from the flower bud and is offered in two forms: a traditional alcohol-based tincture and an alcohol-free glycerite, each prepared by cold maceration from ethically sourced raw material. This is a whole-bud liquid extract that carries the bud's natural spectrum of constituents - it is not an isolated or standardized single-compound product. What is the difference between the tincture and alcohol-free versions?
Both are liquid extracts of the same Rosa rugosa flower bud; only the solvent differs. The tincture uses a traditional cold-maceration blend of vegetable glycerine, alcohol and water. The alcohol-free version is a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and crystal-clear water, which suits those who prefer to avoid alcohol. Choose the tincture if you prefer a classic alcohol-extracted format with a longer shelf life; choose the glycerite if you prefer no alcohol.
Is this rose petals, rose hips, or the garden rose?
None of those - it is the herbal flower bud. Our product is the dried flower BUD of Rosa rugosa, known in traditional Chinese herbalism as Mei Gui Hua. It is a different part from rose petals, which are mostly used in cooking and decoration, and from rose hips, which are the fruit of the rose (usually the dog rose, Rosa canina) and a different product entirely. Rosa rugosa is also grown as an ornamental beach rose in gardens and along coasts, but our product is the herbal bud prepared as a supplement, not the landscape shrub. And in Chinese herbalism Mei Gui Hua (the bud of Rosa rugosa) is distinct from Yue Ji Hua, the flower of Rosa chinensis. It is a whole-bud extract, not an isolated compound. We label the product clearly so there is no confusion between the herbal rose bud, culinary rose petals, rose hips, the ornamental rose, and other rose herbs.
How do I use Rugosa Rose Bud liquid extract?
