External-use safety information - please read before use

Please read these cautions before using Club Moss topical extract.

Frequently Asked Questions about Club Moss Extract
What is Club Moss (Lycopodium clavatum) topical extract?
Club Moss is the common name for Lycopodium clavatum, a low, spore-bearing evergreen plant of the clubmoss family (Lycopodiaceae), also called Common Club Moss, Ground Pine, or Stag's Horn Moss. This is a liquid extract of the dried whole herb FOR EXTERNAL (TOPICAL) USE ONLY - it is not for internal use. This alcohol-free version is a vegetable-glycerin glycerite, applied to the skin. Club moss naturally contains alkaloids (such as lycopodine) that are considered unsafe to take by mouth, which is why we offer it strictly for external use. Please read the external-use safety notes below.
What is the difference between the alcohol-free and tincture versions?
Both are liquid extracts of the same Lycopodium clavatum whole herb for external use; only the solvent differs. This alcohol-free version is a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and purified water; the tincture uses organic alcohol with vegetable glycerin and water, the classic conventional method with a long shelf life. Choose whichever suits your topical routine. The herb inside is identical, and the same external-use safety notes apply to both - neither is for internal use.
Is this the same as Chinese Club Moss (the huperzine one)?
No - this is an important difference. Our product is Common Club Moss, Lycopodium clavatum, which does not contain huperzine A. Chinese Club Moss (Huperzia serrata) and Fir Club Moss (Lycopodium selago, also called Huperzia selago) are different species that do contain huperzine A, a compound often marketed for memory. We do not carry those species, and this Lycopodium clavatum extract should not be confused with them. We label this page clearly as Lycopodium clavatum, for external use.
How do I use Club Moss topical liquid extract?
For external use only. Shake well first, and do a patch test on a small area before wider use. Apply to intact skin only - do not use on open wounds or broken skin, and keep it away from the eyes and mucous membranes. Do not take it internally. Discontinue use if any irritation or reaction occurs. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct light, and keep out of reach of children.
Is Club Moss topical safe for everyone? External-use safety information.
Please read this carefully. External use only: this product is not for internal use. Club moss contains alkaloids such as lycopodine that are considered unsafe to take by mouth, so do not swallow it. Skin: apply to intact skin only, not to open wounds; do a patch test first, and stop if redness, itching, or rash develops. Pregnancy and nursing: do not use during pregnancy, and if breastfeeding use only sporadically and after consulting your doctor; do not use long-term. Keep away from the eyes; do not use on infants or children. If you have a medical condition or take medication, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Do not use it to self-treat any medical condition - see a qualified doctor instead. This alcohol-free glycerite is best refrigerated after opening. Keep out of reach of children. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
