Madder Root (Rubia tinctorum) - Topical Alcohol-Free Liquid Extract
This is an alcohol-free liquid extract (glycerite) prepared from the dried root of Madder - Rubia tinctorum, a plant of the madder family (Rubiaceae), also called Dyer's Madder or Common Madder; historically the source of a red textile dye. This product is for external (topical) use only.
- Botanical name: Rubia tinctorum L. (Rubiaceae)
- Plant part: Dried root
- Also known as: Madder, Madder Root, Dyer's Madder, Common Madder
- Extract type: Alcohol-free glycerite - for external use only
- Other ingredients: Vegetable glycerin, purified water
- Origin: Responsibly sourced. Gluten free. Made in the USA.
This is Madder Root (Rubia tinctorum), different from Indian Madder (Rubia cordifolia), which we carry separately. It naturally contains anthraquinones including lucidin; please read the important safety information below before use.
Important safety information - please read carefully before use
Madder root contains anthraquinones, including lucidin. Please read these cautions before use.
- External use only - never internal: this product is for topical use and must not be swallowed. Madder root contains lucidin, which is genotoxic (it can damage DNA) and has caused cancer in animal studies; herbal use of madder root by mouth is no longer permitted in some countries, which is why we offer it strictly for external use.
- Skin: apply to intact skin only - do not use on open wounds or broken skin, and keep it away from the eyes and mucous membranes. Do a patch test first, and stop if redness, itching, or rash develops.
- Staining: madder is a strong natural dye and can stain skin, nails, and fabric.
- Pregnancy / nursing: do not use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
- Do not use on infants or children. If you have a medical condition or take medication, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Do not use it to self-treat any medical condition - see a qualified doctor instead. Keep out of reach of children.

Processing to shipping time took about three days. Time in transit was good. Not sure how long it takes to see any improvement (taking for only two days now) so just can't verify how well product works. If it works I would rate a 5, if not then I would rate a 2. A 4 right now is just being op ..
