- Pregnancy - do NOT use: Chuan Niu Xi is strictly contraindicated in pregnancy. It stimulates the uterus and directs blood downward, and it has been used historically as an abortifacient, so it must not be used during pregnancy at any stage. Avoid while breastfeeding.
- Heavy menstrual bleeding: do not use it if you have heavy or excessive menstrual bleeding.
- Bleeding / surgery: because it moves the blood, use caution if you take blood-thinning or antiplatelet medication, have a bleeding disorder, or are approaching surgery, and consult your practitioner first.
- Short-term use: keep to the suggested serving and short-term use, ideally under the guidance of a qualified practitioner.
