California Poppy and Passionflower Drops | Alcohol-Free
California Poppy and Passionflower Alcohol-Free Glycerite, California Poppy Aerial Parts, Passion Flower HerbCalifornia Poppy and Passionflower Alcohol-Free Drops
This is an alcohol-free liquid extract (glycerite) of two North American herbs extracted together in equal parts. The blend is named for its two ingredients; both are also sold on their own. Both herbs can cause drowsiness - please read the safety information below before use.
- California poppy, aerial parts - Eschscholzia californica flowering herb (Papaveraceae) - not the opium poppy; contains no opiates
- Passion flower, herb - Passiflora incarnata leaf and stem (Passifloraceae) - the maypop vine
- Extract type: Alcohol-free glycerite - liquid drops. Other ingredients: vegetable glycerin, purified water
- Origin: Responsibly sourced, cultivated botanicals. Gluten free. Made in the USA.
What is in the blend
- California poppy - the bright orange annual that carpets Californian hillsides each spring; the whole flowering herb is used. It belongs to the poppy family but is a different genus from the opium poppy and contains no opium.
- Passion flower - the maypop, a climbing vine of the southeastern United States with intricate purple-fringed flowers and egg-shaped fruit; the leafy stems are used, gathered when the plant is in flower.
Why the alcohol-free drops
The two dried herbs are extracted together in vegetable glycerin and purified water, so there is no ethanol in the bottle - the version to choose if you avoid alcohol. Glycerin gives the drops a mild, naturally sweet taste that softens the grassy bitterness of the herbs.
What is a glycerite?
A glycerite is a liquid herbal extract made with vegetable glycerin instead of alcohol. Glycerin is a clear, naturally sweet liquid from plant oils; it extracts and preserves the water-soluble parts of the herbs. Because glycerin is a weaker preservative than alcohol, keep the bottle refrigerated after opening. The glycerin and water percentages are printed on the label.
How to use
Shake well before use. Put the number of drops shown on the label into a little water, juice or tea and drink it, up to the frequency shown on the label. Do not exceed the label serving. It may cause drowsiness - do not drive or operate machinery after taking it, and do not combine it with alcohol. Refrigerate after opening and use within the period printed on the label.
Drops or tincture?
If you prefer the classic alcohol-based extract with the longest shelf life at room temperature, the same two-herb blend is available as California Poppy and Passionflower Tincture - the alcohol-based version. The herbs and proportions are identical; only the extraction liquid differs.
