Frequently Asked Questions about Flemingia Extract
What is Qian Jin Ba / Flemingia (Flemingia philippinensis) extract?
Qian Jin Ba (Thousand-pound Pull) is the Chinese name for the root of Flemingia philippinensis, a legume-family plant (Fabaceae) of southern China; its accepted botanical name is Flemingia prostrata, and it is also listed under the synonym Moghania philippinensis. In English it is often sold simply as "Flemingia." This is a liquid extract of the dried root, offered here as an alcohol-free vegetable-glycerin glycerite. It is a botanical extract and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease; please read the safety note below.
What is the difference between the alcohol-free and tincture versions?
Both are liquid extracts of the same Flemingia philippinensis root; only the solvent differs. This alcohol-free version is a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and purified water, a good choice for those avoiding alcohol; the tincture uses organic alcohol with vegetable glycerin and water, the classic conventional method with a long shelf life. Choose whichever suits you. The root inside is identical, and the same notes apply to both.
Is Qian Jin Ba the same as Wild Hops (Flemingia strobilifera)?
No - they are different species of the same genus. Qian Jin Ba is Flemingia philippinensis (accepted name Flemingia prostrata), the "thousand-pound pull" root, which we carry here and also list under the English name "Flemingia." Wild Hops is Flemingia strobilifera, a different species, which we list separately (also a root). They share the genus Flemingia but are not the same plant. Note also that Flemingia macrophylla is a related medicinal species sometimes confused in the market; this page is Flemingia philippinensis.
How is Qian Jin Ba extract used?
Shake well before use. Use the number of drops shown on the label, in a little water or juice, up to the suggested frequency. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct light, and keep out of reach of children.
Is Qian Jin Ba safe? Safety information.
Qian Jin Ba (Flemingia philippinensis) is regarded as mild and non-toxic in traditional use, but a few cautions apply. Digestion: it is traditionally avoided by people with weak digestion or a sensitive stomach. Pregnancy and nursing: it is a blood-activating herb and safety data are limited, so do not use it during pregnancy or while breastfeeding except under a physician's advice. If you have a medical condition or take medication, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Do not give it to infants or children without medical advice. Do not use it to self-treat any medical condition - see a qualified doctor instead. Store as directed on the label. Keep out of reach of children. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
