Blackberry (Rubus armeniacus), the Himalayan or Armenian blackberry, is a vigorous perennial bramble of the rose family, Rosaceae, native to Armenia and northern Iran and now the dominant wild blackberry of the Pacific Northwest, California, and western Europe, where it was introduced as a fruit crop in the 1880s and escaped. Its thick, ridged, arching canes grow 3 to 6 meters in a season, armed with stout curved thorns, rooting wherever the tips touch soil and forming impenetrable thickets. The leaves have five rounded leaflets, the flowers are white to pale pink, and the fruit is large, glossy black, sweet, and heavy with juice. We extract the dried root.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
