Hops (Humulus lupulus) is a vigorous twining perennial vine of the hemp family, Cannabaceae, native to Europe, western Asia and North America and grown on tall trellises for brewing. Rough, bristly stems climb 6 m or more each season with lobed, toothed, hand-shaped leaves. Female plants bear papery, cone-like flower clusters called strobiles, whose inner glands hold a sticky yellow resin, lupulin, with a bitter taste and a strong scent of pine, citrus and grass. We extract the dried flower.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
