Frequently Asked Questions about Maqui Extract
What is Maqui Berry (Aristotelia chilensis) extract?
Maqui berry extract is a dietary supplement made from the dried berry of Aristotelia chilensis, the maqui, also known as the Chilean wineberry, a small dark-purple fruit native to Chile and Patagonia. Our extract is made specifically from the berry and is offered in two forms: a traditional alcohol-based tincture and an alcohol-free glycerite, each prepared from ethically sourced raw material. This is a whole-berry liquid extract that carries the berry's natural spectrum of constituents, including the anthocyanin pigments that give maqui its deep color - it is not an isolated or standardized single-compound product. We label the product by its botanical name and plant part so it is clear this is Aristotelia chilensis, distinct from maqui powders and isolated maqui ingredients.
What is the difference between the tincture and alcohol-free versions?
Both are liquid extracts of the same Aristotelia chilensis berry; only the solvent differs. The tincture uses a traditional blend of vegetable glycerine, alcohol and water. The alcohol-free version is a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and crystal-clear water, which suits those who prefer to avoid alcohol. Choose the tincture if you prefer a classic alcohol-extracted format with a longer shelf life; choose the glycerite if you prefer no alcohol.
Is this maqui powder, delphinidin, or MaquiBright?
None of those. Our product is a whole-berry liquid extract of maqui (Aristotelia chilensis). It is not maqui berry powder, which is the freeze-dried berry ground into a powder - a different format from our liquid extract. It is not isolated delphinidin, which is a single anthocyanin pigment separated from the berry, because ours is the whole berry rather than one isolated compound. And it is not MaquiBright or any other branded, standardized maqui extract; ours is a straightforward whole-berry liquid extract. Maqui is the Chilean wineberry, a distinct South American berry that is often mentioned alongside other dark berries. We label the product clearly by its botanical name so there is no confusion between whole maqui berry extract, maqui powder, isolated compounds, and standardized branded extracts.
How do I use Maqui Berry liquid extract?
Shake well before use. Adults take 20-30 drops (approximately 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper) in 2 oz of water, tea, or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by your practitioner. Drink the entire contents. Maqui is deeply pigmented and may stain.
Is Maqui Berry extract right for everyone? Safety and storage.
Maqui is a food-grade berry that has long been eaten in Chile, and it is generally well tolerated. As with any concentrated supplement, it is best not to exceed the suggested serving size, and it is best avoided in concentrated amounts during pregnancy and nursing unless supervised by a practitioner. If you take any prescription medication or are managing a health condition, talk with a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Keep out of reach of children. Store this tincture in a cool, dark place. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

ETHICALLY SOURCED, NATURAL INGREDIENTS
Our Maqui (Aristotelia Chilensis) Berry is selected from regions with optimal growing conditions to support a high concentration of active constituents. We work only with trusted suppliers and focus on sourcing clean, well-preserved botanical material suitable for high-quality liquid extraction.

As a solvent, we use alcohol to preserve the integrity of the extract and support a clean extraction process.
To verify botanical identity and ensure consistency, all raw materials are tested in our laboratory using established analytical techniques. These include High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) for plant authentication and fingerprinting, or Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and other in-house methods. Our approach is guided by relevant standards such as those of the USP and Ph. Eur., ISO 17025 and cGLP, allowing us to maintain rigorous quality control, ensuring the material meets our specifications for identity, purity and composition.
METICULOUS EXTRACT PREPARATION
Hawaii Pharm determines the optimal herb-to-menstruum ratio for each botanical. For alcohol-based extracts, we use a carefully balanced alcohol blend to ensure maximum extraction of active compounds while preserving the plant's natural integrity.
Our master herbalists analyze each batch and adjust extraction parameters as needed, ensuring consistent quality despite natural variations in botanical sources.
The result is a potent, stable liquid extract that captures the full spectrum of the botanical's benefits.
COMPREHENSIVE LABORATORY TESTING
Every batch undergoes multiple quality assurance tests including:
  • Organoleptic evaluation (color, consistency, aroma)
  • FTIR and/or HPTLC spectral analysis for identity confirmation
  • Microbiological testing (total plate count, E. coli, coliforms)
  • Yeast and mold screening
  • Alcohol content verification
  • Viscosity measurement
  • Refractometric analysis
