FEATURES AND DESCRIPTION:
  •   ALCOHOL FREE
  •   GLUTEN FREE
  •   Expertly extracted
  •   Safed Musli Root Glycerite contains ONLY natural ingredients
  •   High Quality Safed Musli Root liquid extract - we use classic conventional methods of extraction. We meticulously produce our extracts according to precise standards where each herb is extracted according to the distinct characteristic of each plant.
  •   Concentrated Safed Musli Root glycerin-based liquid extract
  •   Cultivated raw material of Indian origin

Safed Musli (Chlorophytum borivilianum) is a small herbaceous plant of the family Asparagaceae, native to India. Its name is Hindi for white musli, after its pale tuberous roots, which are the part used here. The species name borivilianum comes from Borivali, a district of Mumbai. This alcohol-free extract is prepared from the dried root in a smooth vegetable glycerin base.

  •

WHOLE-ROOT LIQUID EXTRACT: Made from the dried tuberous root of Chlorophytum borivilianum, carrying the root's natural spectrum of constituents rather than an isolated or standardized compound.

  •

ALCOHOL-FREE, GLYCERIN BASE: This version is 100% alcohol-free, made with a smooth vegetable glycerin base and crystal clear water.

  •

THE INDIAN MEDICINAL ROOT, NOT THE SPIDER PLANT: Safed musli, Chlorophytum borivilianum, is an Indian plant used for its tuberous roots. It shares its genus with Chlorophytum comosum, the ornamental spider plant houseplant, but that is a different species from South Africa. Ours is the root, not the ornamental.

  •

NOT MUESLI: Safed musli has nothing to do with muesli, the Swiss breakfast mixture of oats, fruit and nuts. The similar sound is a coincidence of spelling.

  •

OTHER NAMES YOU MAY SEE: White musli, dholi musli, and Indian spider plant all refer to this same plant.

  •

CULTIVATED SOURCE: Wild Chlorophytum borivilianum is a threatened species in India, so our raw material is from cultivated crop rather than wild collection.

Chlorophytum borivilianum - Safed Musli Root

Safed Musli (Chlorophytum borivilianum) grows in the tropical forests of peninsular India and has a long history in the Ayurvedic tradition. Its Hindi name means white tubers, describing the pale roots that are dried and used. The wild plant has been heavily over-collected and is now considered threatened, which is why it is increasingly grown as a cultivated crop.

About our Safed Musli Root Extract:

We start with dried Chlorophytum borivilianum root of Indian origin and, unlike alcohol-based products, this formula is 100% alcohol-free, using a gentle vegetable glycerin base. It is a whole-root extract - not an isolate - carrying the root's natural profile. It is gluten-free.

Suggested use: Shake well before use. Adults take 20-30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 3 times daily, or as directed by your practitioner.*

Frequently Asked Questions about Safed Musli Extract
What is Safed Musli (Chlorophytum borivilianum)?
Safed Musli is a small herbaceous plant of the family Asparagaceae, botanically Chlorophytum borivilianum. The name is Hindi for white musli, a reference to its pale tuberous roots, which are the part used here; it is also known as dholi musli and, in English, as Indian spider plant. It is native to India, where it grows in the tropical forests of the peninsula, and it has a long history in Ayurvedic tradition. The species name borivilianum comes from Borivali, a district of Mumbai. Our extract is made from the dried root and offered in two forms, an alcohol-free glycerite and a traditional alcohol-based tincture. This is a whole-root liquid extract carrying the root's natural spectrum of constituents, not an isolated or standardized single compound, and we label it clearly by botanical name and plant part. One point of identity is worth stating up front: this is the Indian medicinal root, not the ornamental spider plant sold as a houseplant, which is a different species. Please read the safety section before use.
What is the difference between the alcohol-free and tincture versions?
Both are liquid extracts of the same Chlorophytum borivilianum root; only the solvent differs. The alcohol-free version is a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and purified water, suited to those who avoid alcohol. The tincture uses alcohol as the traditional solvent, together with vegetable glycerin and water. Both deliver the root's constituents in a convenient liquid you take by the drop. Choose the glycerite if you prefer no alcohol; choose the tincture for a classic alcohol-extracted format with a longer shelf life.
Is this the same as the spider plant, or as muesli?
No to both, and the distinctions are worth making because the names cause real confusion. First, the spider plant: our plant, Chlorophytum borivilianum, belongs to the same genus as Chlorophytum comosum, the familiar spider plant grown as a houseplant. But they are different species from different places and put to entirely different uses. C. comosum is a South African ornamental, valued for its arching variegated leaves and grown in pots and hanging baskets; C. borivilianum is an Indian plant whose tuberous roots are used as safed musli. Ours is the Indian medicinal root, not the ornamental houseplant. Second, muesli: safed musli has nothing to do with muesli, the Swiss breakfast mixture of oats, fruit and nuts - the similar sound is a coincidence of spelling. This product is a liquid extract of the dried root of Chlorophytum borivilianum. We label the botanical name and plant part on every page so it is clear which plant you are getting.
How do I use Safed Musli liquid extract?
Shake well before use. Adults take 20-30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 3 times daily, or as directed by your practitioner. Drink the entire contents. Do not exceed the suggested serving.
Is Safed Musli extract right for everyone? Safety and storage.
Please read this before use, and we would rather be straightforward than reassuring: the published safety and toxicology data on Chlorophytum borivilianum is limited, and reviews of the literature note that it is inadequate for firm conclusions about regular commercial use. That absence of data is itself a reason for a conservative approach. Do not use this product during pregnancy, and if you are nursing, speak with your practitioner first. Do not use it if you are allergic to any ingredient. If you take any medication or are managing a health condition, talk with a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Keep out of reach of children, and do not exceed the suggested serving. This alcohol-free glycerite should be kept refrigerated after opening. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
