Frequently Asked Questions about Sang Bai Pi Mulberry Extract
What is Mulberry Root Bark / Sang Bai Pi (Morus alba) extract?
Mulberry root bark extract is a dietary supplement made from the dried root bark of Morus alba, the white mulberry tree, a member of the family Moraceae. In traditional Chinese herbalism this part is called Sang Bai Pi, and in pharmacopoeia texts it appears as Cortex Mori. The raw material is the bark of the root, typically one to five millimetres thick with a yellowish-white inner surface. Our extract is made from that root bark and is offered in two forms: a traditional alcohol-based tincture and an alcohol-free glycerite, each prepared at a 1:3 ratio from ethically sourced, wild-harvested material grown in China. This is a whole-bark liquid extract that carries the bark's natural spectrum of constituents - it is not an isolated or standardized single compound. We label the product by botanical name and plant part so it is clear which part of the mulberry this is.
What is the difference between the tincture and alcohol-free versions?
Both are liquid extracts of the same Morus alba root bark; only the solvent differs. The tincture uses a traditional blend of vegetable glycerine, alcohol and water. The alcohol-free version is a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and crystal-clear water, which suits those who prefer to avoid alcohol. Choose the tincture if you prefer a classic alcohol-extracted format with a longer shelf life; choose the glycerite if you prefer no alcohol.
How is this different from mulberry leaf, fruit, or twig?
They are four different parts of the same tree, and in traditional Chinese herbalism each is treated as its own herb with its own name. Our product is the ROOT BARK, called Sang Bai Pi. The leaf is Sang Ye, the fruit is Sang Shen, and the young twig is Sang Zhi - we sell each of those as a separate product, so they should be chosen deliberately rather than treated as interchangeable. This matters when shopping, because the English phrase white mulberry is often used loosely and most commonly refers to the leaf or the berry rather than the root bark. There is also a fifth product with mulberry in its name, Sang Ji Sheng, but that is mulberry mistletoe (Taxillus chinensis), a parasitic plant that grows on mulberry trees and is not Morus alba at all. We label every product by botanical name and plant part so there is no confusion between the root bark, leaf, fruit, twig, and mistletoe.
How do I use Mulberry Root Bark liquid extract?
Shake well before use. Adults take 20-30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water, tea, or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by your practitioner. Drink the entire contents. The tincture and the alcohol-free glycerite are used the same way; choose the one that fits your preference.
Is Mulberry Root Bark extract right for everyone? Safety and storage.
Mulberry naturally contains compounds that can lower blood sugar, so anyone who is managing blood sugar or taking medication for it should talk with a qualified healthcare practitioner before use and monitor accordingly. As with any concentrated herbal extract, it is best not to exceed the suggested serving size. Use during pregnancy and nursing only under the supervision of a practitioner. Excessive amounts may affect alertness, so use care when driving or operating machinery. If you take any prescription medication or are managing a health condition, talk with a qualified healthcare practitioner before use, and it is wise to consult a practitioner trained in traditional Chinese herbs before combining it with other herbs. Keep out of reach of children. Store this tincture in a cool, dark place. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. ETHICALLY SOURCED, NATURAL INGREDIENTS
Our Sang Bai Pi Mulberry (Morus Alba) Root Bark is selected from regions with optimal growing conditions to support a high concentration of active constituents. We work only with trusted suppliers and focus on sourcing clean, well-preserved botanical material suitable for high-quality liquid extraction.

As a solvent, we use alcohol to preserve the integrity of the extract and support a clean extraction process.
To verify botanical identity and ensure consistency, all raw materials are tested in our laboratory using established analytical techniques. These include High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) for plant authentication and fingerprinting, or Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and other in-house methods. Our approach is guided by relevant standards such as those of the USP and Ph. Eur., ISO 17025 and cGLP, allowing us to maintain rigorous quality control, ensuring the material meets our specifications for identity, purity and composition.
METICULOUS EXTRACT PREPARATION
Hawaii Pharm determines the optimal herb-to-menstruum ratio for each botanical. For alcohol-based extracts, we use a carefully balanced alcohol blend to ensure maximum extraction of active compounds while preserving the plant's natural integrity.
Our master herbalists analyze each batch and adjust extraction parameters as needed, ensuring consistent quality despite natural variations in botanical sources.
The result is a potent, stable liquid extract that captures the full spectrum of the botanical's benefits.
COMPREHENSIVE LABORATORY TESTING
Every batch undergoes multiple quality assurance tests including:
  • Organoleptic evaluation (color, consistency, aroma)
