Uterus Support Alcohol-Free Drops

This is an alcohol-free liquid extract (glycerite) of three ingredients extracted together: the peppery berry of the Mediterranean chaste tree, bromelain - the enzyme concentrate of pineapple stem - and the inner bark of the Amazonian cat's claw vine. Each is also sold on its own. It is a traditional herbal product with several important cautions - it interacts with hormonal contraceptives and immunosuppressants, and affects blood clotting - please read the safety information below before use.

  • Vitex (chaste tree), berry - Vitex agnus-castus berry (Lamiaceae)
  • Bromelain - Ananas comosus stem enzyme (Bromeliaceae) - a pineapple-derived enzyme powder
  • Cat's claw, inner bark - Uncaria tomentosa inner bark (Rubiaceae)
  • Extract type: Alcohol-free glycerite - liquid drops. Other ingredients: vegetable glycerin, purified water
  • Origin: Responsibly sourced (vitex from Turkey, bromelain from the USA, cat's claw from Peru). Gluten free. Made in the USA.

What is in the blend

  • Vitex berry - the small, dark, pepper-scented fruit of the chaste tree, a shrub of Mediterranean riverbanks with lilac flower spikes; gathered in European herbalism for centuries.
  • Bromelain - not a herb but a group of protein-digesting enzymes concentrated from the stem of the pineapple plant and supplied as a dried powder. Because it comes from pineapple, it matters for anyone with a pineapple, latex or papain allergy.
  • Cat's claw inner bark - the inner bark of a woody vine of the Peruvian Amazon, named for the curved thorns at the base of its leaves. This is Uncaria tomentosa - a different plant from Uncaria guianensis, and unrelated to devil's claw.

Why the alcohol-free drops

The three dried ingredients are extracted together in vegetable glycerin and purified water, so there is no ethanol in the bottle - the version to choose if you avoid alcohol. Glycerin gives the drops a mild, naturally sweet taste that softens the bitter, peppery note of the blend.

What is a glycerite?

A glycerite is a liquid herbal extract made with vegetable glycerin instead of alcohol. Glycerin is a clear, naturally sweet liquid from plant oils; it extracts and preserves the water-soluble parts of the herbs. Because glycerin is a weaker preservative than alcohol, keep the bottle refrigerated after opening. The glycerin and water percentages are printed on the label.

How to use

Shake well before use. Put the number of drops shown on the label into a little water, juice or tea and drink it, up to the frequency shown on the label. Do not exceed the label serving, and do not use continuously for more than a few months without a practitioner. Refrigerate after opening and use within the period printed on the label.

Drops or tincture?

If you prefer the classic alcohol-based extract with the longest shelf life at room temperature, the same blend is available as Uterus Support Tincture - the alcohol-based version. The ingredients and proportions are identical; only the extraction liquid differs.

Important safety information - please read before use

Vitex interacts with hormonal contraceptives, cat's claw with immunosuppressants, and both cat's claw and bromelain affect blood clotting. Please read before use.

  • Contraceptives and hormone therapy: vitex can reduce the effect of hormonal contraceptives and hormone replacement therapy. Do not use this blend with them unless your doctor agrees.
  • Dopamine-related medicines: vitex may interfere with antipsychotics and dopamine agonists such as levodopa or bromocriptine. Do not combine without medical advice.
  • Immunosuppressants and autoimmune conditions: cat's claw can stimulate the immune system. Do not use if you take immunosuppressant medicines, including after a transplant, or if you have an autoimmune condition.
  • Bleeding and surgery: cat's claw and bromelain can slow blood clotting. Do not combine with blood thinners, aspirin or NSAIDs without medical advice, and stop use at least two weeks before surgery.
  • Prescription medicines: cat's claw blocks the liver enzyme CYP3A4 and can raise the levels of HIV protease inhibitors, cyclosporine and some benzodiazepines; bromelain can change the absorption of antibiotics such as amoxicillin and tetracycline. Ask your pharmacist before combining.
  • Pregnancy, nursing and conception: do not use.
  • Hormone-sensitive conditions: vitex acts on hormone pathways. Consult your doctor before use.
  • Allergies: avoid if you are allergic to pineapple, latex or papain.
  • Blood pressure: cat's claw can lower it. Use caution with blood-pressure medication.
  • Age: not for children.
  • If you have a medical condition or take medication, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Do not use it to self-treat any medical condition - see a qualified doctor instead. Keep out of reach of children.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Uterus Support Alcohol-Free Drops?
Uterus Support is a three-ingredient liquid blend: vitex berry (Vitex agnus-castus, the chaste tree berry), bromelain (the enzyme-rich extract of pineapple stem, Ananas comosus) and cat's claw inner bark (Uncaria tomentosa), extracted together in vegetable glycerin and purified water, with no alcohol. Vitex is the small peppery berry of a Mediterranean shrub, sourced here from Turkey; bromelain is a protein-digesting enzyme concentrated from pineapple stems; cat's claw is the inner bark of a thorny vine of the Peruvian Amazon. Each is also sold on its own. It is an herbal glycerite, not a capsule. It is a botanical product and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Please read the safety note below - vitex interacts with hormonal contraceptives, cat's claw with immunosuppressants, and both cat's claw and bromelain affect blood clotting.
What is the difference between the alcohol-free drops and the tincture?
Both contain the same three ingredients in the same proportions; only the extraction liquid differs. These drops are a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and purified water - no alcohol, a milder and naturally sweet taste that softens the bitter, peppery note of the blend, best kept refrigerated after opening. The tincture uses organic alcohol with vegetable glycerin and water, the classic method with the longest shelf life at room temperature. Choose whichever suits you; the safety notes apply to both.
What is bromelain doing in an herbal blend? Which cat's claw is this?
Bromelain is not a herb in the usual sense but a group of protein-digesting enzymes concentrated from the stem of the pineapple plant; it is supplied as a dried powder and extracted here alongside the two botanicals. Because it comes from pineapple, people allergic to pineapple, latex or papain should avoid this blend. The cat's claw is Uncaria tomentosa, the Peruvian species used in most research, harvested as the inner bark - a different plant from Uncaria guianensis and unrelated to devil's claw. Vitex is the same chaste tree berry used in our Femenol, LAIDY and Period Relief blends. All three ingredients are available as single extracts.
