Wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbens) Leaf - Topical Liquid Extract Tincture
This is an alcohol-based liquid extract (tincture) prepared from the dried leaf of Wintergreen - Gaultheria procumbens, a low evergreen shrub of the heath family (Ericaceae), also called Eastern Teaberry, Checkerberry, or Boxberry. This product is for external (topical) use only.
- Botanical name: Gaultheria procumbens L. (Ericaceae)
- Plant part: Dried leaf
- Also known as: Wintergreen, Eastern Teaberry, Checkerberry, Boxberry
- Extract type: Alcohol tincture - for external use only
- Other ingredients: Organic alcohol, vegetable glycerin, crystal clear purified water
- Origin: Responsibly sourced. Gluten free. Made in the USA.
This is Wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbens), different from Sweet Birch (Betula lenta), which we carry separately. Wintergreen naturally contains salicylates (methyl salicylate), the aspirin family; please read the important safety information below before use.
Important safety information - please read carefully before use
Please read these cautions before use.
- External use only - never swallow: methyl salicylate can be absorbed through the skin and cause salicylate poisoning, so never swallow this product, do not apply it to large areas of skin, and do not cover it with a bandage or heat.
- Children and teens: do NOT apply to children or teenagers, especially anyone with a viral illness - absorbed salicylates are linked to Reye's syndrome. Do not use on children under 6.
- Aspirin / NSAID allergy: do not use if you are allergic or sensitive to aspirin, salicylates, or NSAID pain relievers.
- Medication: if you take blood thinners or other medication, consult your practitioner first.
- Pregnancy / nursing: do NOT use during pregnancy or while nursing.
- Skin: apply to intact skin only; do a patch test first, keep away from the eyes and mucous membranes, and stop if redness, itching, or rash develops. Because this is an alcohol tincture, it may sting on sensitive skin.
- Contains alcohol. If you have a medical condition, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Do not use it to self-treat any medical condition - see a qualified doctor instead. Keep out of reach of children.
