Frequently Asked Questions about Rose Extract
What is Rose Petal (Rosa centifolia) extract?
Rose petal extract is a dietary supplement made from the dried petals of Rosa centifolia, the cabbage rose - also known as the Provence rose or hundred-leaved rose - a fragrant rose of the family Rosaceae. Our extract is made specifically from the petals and is offered in two forms: a traditional alcohol-based tincture and an alcohol-free glycerite, each prepared from ethically sourced raw material. This is a whole-petal liquid extract that carries the petals' natural spectrum of constituents - it is not an isolated or standardized single-compound product. We label the product by its botanical name and plant part so it is clear this is the petal of Rosa centifolia, distinct from other roses and from rose products such as rose water.
What is the difference between the tincture and alcohol-free versions?
Both are liquid extracts of the same Rosa centifolia petals; only the solvent differs. The tincture uses a traditional blend of vegetable glycerine, alcohol and water. The alcohol-free version is a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and crystal-clear water, which suits those who prefer to avoid alcohol. Choose the tincture if you prefer a classic alcohol-extracted format with a longer shelf life; choose the glycerite if you prefer no alcohol.
Is this rose water, cooking petals, or a different rose?
None of those exactly. Our product is a liquid herbal extract of rose petals, not rose water - rose water is a distilled hydrosol used in cosmetics and cooking, and rose oil or attar are yet other products. It is also different from the loose dried rose petals sold for cooking, tea, cake decoration, or wedding confetti; while it is the same plant part, ours is a concentrated liquid extract. And it is a specific rose: Rosa centifolia, the cabbage or Provence rose, which is a different species from the damask rose (Rosa damascena) often used in perfume, from Rosa rugosa (whose bud is the Chinese herb Mei Gui Hua), from the dog rose (Rosa canina, the source of rose hips), and from the Cherokee rose (Rosa laevigata). We label the product clearly by its botanical name so there is no confusion between cabbage rose petal extract, rose water, culinary petals, and other rose species.
How do I use Rose Petal liquid extract?
Shake well before use. Adults take 20-30 drops (approximately 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper) in 2 oz of water, tea, or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by your practitioner. Drink the entire contents.
Is Rose Petal extract right for everyone? Safety and storage.
Rose petal is a gentle, food-grade herb - rose petals have long been used in food, tea, and traditional preparations - and is generally well tolerated. As with any supplement, it is best not to exceed the suggested serving size, and it is best avoided during pregnancy and nursing unless supervised by a practitioner. If you take any prescription medication or are managing a health condition, talk with a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Keep out of reach of children. Store this tincture in a cool, dark place. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

ETHICALLY SOURCED, NATURAL INGREDIENTS
Our Rose (Rosa Centifolia) Petals is selected from regions with optimal growing conditions to support a high concentration of active constituents. We work only with trusted suppliers and focus on sourcing clean, well-preserved botanical material suitable for high-quality liquid extraction.

As a solvent, we use alcohol to preserve the integrity of the extract and support a clean extraction process.
To verify botanical identity and ensure consistency, all raw materials are tested in our laboratory using established analytical techniques. These include High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) for plant authentication and fingerprinting, or Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and other in-house methods. Our approach is guided by relevant standards such as those of the USP and Ph. Eur., ISO 17025 and cGLP, allowing us to maintain rigorous quality control, ensuring the material meets our specifications for identity, purity and composition.
METICULOUS EXTRACT PREPARATION
Hawaii Pharm determines the optimal herb-to-menstruum ratio for each botanical. For alcohol-based extracts, we use a carefully balanced alcohol blend to ensure maximum extraction of active compounds while preserving the plant's natural integrity.
Our master herbalists analyze each batch and adjust extraction parameters as needed, ensuring consistent quality despite natural variations in botanical sources.
The result is a potent, stable liquid extract that captures the full spectrum of the botanical's benefits.
COMPREHENSIVE LABORATORY TESTING
Every batch undergoes multiple quality assurance tests including:
  • Organoleptic evaluation (color, consistency, aroma)
  • FTIR and/or HPTLC spectral analysis for identity confirmation
  • Microbiological testing (total plate count, E. coli, coliforms)
  • Yeast and mold screening
  • Alcohol content verification
  • Viscosity measurement
  • Refractometric analysis
